Erika is best known for her series, Little Bear Teddy, which, as you can already guess from the name, is inspired by her boyfriend’s real-life resilience. The first book in the series, Little Bear Teddy: Big Dreams Come True, was published in 2017. Erika began writing the book when Teddy Bridgewater was recovering from his 2016 preseason knee injury, which included a torn ACL, a dislocated knee joint, and multiple structural injuries. Erika reportedly completed the first draft when she was sitting beside the football star in the hospital. She said:
“It helped us actually get through the injury. When he got injured, I got injured because I had to see him go through that. Teddy was never really too high, never really too low. That’s just how Teddy is. Even in the lowest points, he’s trying to remain positive and calm.”
Erika later published the next book in the series titled Little Bear Teddy: Big Change. She had shared that the book was influenced by Teddy’s football career. However, this time, she also took inspiration from her own unexpected thyroid biopsy. An interesting fact about Erika’s books is that it often comes with Teddy Bridgewater's autograph. The synopsis of the sequel reads:
“Little Bear Teddy has the perfect plan of practicing his football skills on the lawn after school, but a big storm comes and ruins the neighborhood. He has to move to a home in a new city and isn’t very thrilled, but it turns out that moving isn’t so bad after all.”
According to the author, she hopes that children see Teddy's story the way that she has always seen it: that setbacks can spark strength. Despite the growing popularity of her books and being romantically linked to one of the biggest stars in the NFL, Erika has stayed away from social media. She had previously confessed that she prefers to live “a real life.”
Yet, the books that she has written have quietly made their way to classrooms and libraries, acting as a source of inspiration for young readers, just like she had wanted. Teddy has also given his stamp of approval when it comes to his girlfriend’s career as an author. He said:
“It’s amazing to watch her thoughts come to life. She has a sharp mind, and for her to put all this together in the span of a year, it’s very impressive. It’s awesome to watch all of her hard work and determination come to life.”
