Lisa Harrow left New Zealand during the ‘60s on an Arts Council scholarship to undergo training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She came to the BBC Radio Repertory Company after her graduation in 1968. She then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company a year later in 1969, entering the stage for the first time.

During her time at the Royal Shakespeare Company, she became famous for portraying 'Olivia' in Twelfth Night, and it was the first time the company gave a lead role to an actress fresh out of drama school. She went on to play 'Portia' in The Merchant of Venice opposite Patrick Stewart, followed by Othello and more. Lisa’s theatre work later spanned the US, and she took over the central role of 'Vivian Bearing' in the Pulitzer-winning Wit off-Broadway in New York.

Sam Neill and Lisa Harrow’s first meeting dates back to the ‘80s, when they collaborated on Omen III: The Final Conflict. Notably, both of them were New Zealand actors working in Britain at that time. Reports have claimed that they tied the knot in 1980. A few others have also listed 1981 as the wedding year.

Sam and Lisa allegedly had an on-and-off relationship when they were together. They worked with each other once again in a 1982 biopic, From a Far Country: Pope John Paul II. The pair also welcomed a son named Tim Neill in 1983.

However, the duo’s careers took a different turn at one point. Sam was working extensively in film and television in Australia, the UK, and Hollywood, playing major roles in projects such as The Piano and Jurassic Park. On the other hand, Lisa was still active in theatre, working with the Royal Shakespeare Company and off-Broadway productions like Wit.
