Prashant Tamang, actor and singer, who was best known for winning the reality show, Indian Idol season 3, tragically passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 43. His unexpected death has left his fans and family members in shock. For the unversed, Prashant's fellow singer, Pramod Kharel confirmed the death of the actor through a Facebook post.

Prashant Tamang was born on January 4, 1983, in Darjeeling, West Bengal. Reportedly, he belonged to the Gorkha community. His early life was nothing less than a struggle as his father passed away in an accident. After which, Prashant had to leave school to support his family. At an early age, Prashant joined the Kolkata Police as a constable on compassionate grounds, stepping into his father’s place. During his time as a police officer, Prashant discovered his passion for music. He often sang with the Kolkata Police orchestra, where his talent was noticed and appreciated.
After being appreciated and encouraged by his fellow police officer, Prashant Tamang decided to audition for the reality show, Indian Idol season 3. With his talent and soulful voice, Prashant won the show. After winning the show, Prashant resigned from the police force to fully focus on his music career. Later, he released multiple albums, performed internationally and held multiple tours. Despite coming from a modest and tough background, Prashant ended up winning the hearts of a large audience with his voice.
After a successful singing career, Prashant Tamang transitioned to acting. Before getting into Bollywood and Hindi web-shows, the late actor and singer appeared in multiple Nepali films. However, his breakthrough came with the web-show, Paatal Lok season 2. It is worth mentioning that Paatal Lok season also starred much-loved actor, Jaideep Ahlawat. If reports are to be believed, before his tragic death, Prashant Tamang completed the shoot of Salman Khan's film, Battle Of Galwan.
Prashant Tamang was married to Geeta Thapa. It is worth mentioning that Geeta stayed away from the limelight. However, a few reports state that she was a flight attendant. Reportedly, Prashant and Geeta first met during an international flight. After chatting for a while, the duo became good friends. Later, that friendship blossomed into love. Prashant and Geeta tied the knot on February 16, 2011.
For years, Prashant and Geeta kept their married life private. The two rarely shared glimpses of their personal life on social media. However, in 2022, their world changed, when they welcomed their little angel, Ariah, who doubled their happiness. One of Prashant's last posts features his daughter, Ariah, dressed in a red outfit for Christmas 2025. His last post for his wife was on her birthday.
Prashant Tamang tragically passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 43. While his exact cause of death has not been revealed, multiple reports claim that the singer-actor suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at his residence in New Delhi. Reportedly, he was immediately rushed to a hospital in Dwarka, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. After his unexpected death, his wife of 14 years and daughter, who is only 3 years old have been left behind. It is worth mentioning that Prashant's death was confirmed by his family and close ones.
