Jean-Luc Baker was born to a family that had a lot of talent. Jean’s mother, Sharon, was an ice dancer like him. Back in 1988, Sharon participated in the Olympics, representing Great Britain. Furthermore, Jean’s father, Stephen, has been an expert in para skating. Sharon and Stephen later joined the Olympic View Arena in Mountlake Terrace as coaches. The family used to live in Edmonds at that time. Jean started skating when he was a child and later joined a show, which helped him to improve his skating skills over the years.
In 2012, Jean-Luc Baker arrived in Detroit after his graduation, joining a Skating Club. He decided to pursue skating as a full-time profession at this point. Detroit has been a home to various ice dancing teams, and Jean-Luc Baker eventually entered the same field, joining a student named Joylyn Yang. However, Joylyn later retired, and Jean started performing with Kailtin Hawayek. Jean once claimed that their first season was not up to the mark, and the situation improved in the off-season.
Jean-Luc Baker’s collaboration with Kaitlin Hawayek has helped him to emerge as the winner of various competitions. This includes the 2013 U.S. Championships, followed by the World Junior Championships in the same year. Jean and Kaitlin received gold medals at the JGP events in Mexico and Poland, followed by the World Junior Championships in 2014. The duo took the fourth position at the 2014 Nebelhorn Trophy and fifth in the U.S. Championships in 2016.
Starting from 2024, Jean-Luc Baker has been a choreographer for many popular faces from the world of ice dancing. Jean-Luc Baker and Olivia Smart initially shared a close friendship for around 12 years. In 2022, the duo also competed against each other at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
