Who is Mikaela Shiffrin's fiance, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde? Read on to know more about him and their relationship.
Mikaela Shiffrin is widely known as the greatest Alpine skier of all time. She made history in 2014 by becoming the youngest slalom champion in the Olympics. She was just 18, when she made this record and won a gold medal in slalom in Sochi. However, the year, 2022 hit her hard. At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Mikaela fell within seconds after her first race.
The fall disqualified Mikaela from becoming the first US alpine ski racer to win three Olympic gold medals. Currently, the star player is all set to compete in the event, Women’s team combined slalom. This year at the Milan Cortina Games, Mikaela will compete in a total of three events. The event, Women’s team combined slalom, is scheduled to take place on February 10, 2026, at 6:30 pm IST. Now that Mikaela is ready to give her best to the game, let us introduce you to the man of her dreams, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde was born in Bærum, a suburb of Oslo, Norway. He made his World Cup debut in skiing at the age of 20. According to the International Ski Federation, Aleksander has been skiing since October 2012. Next year, in 2013, he became the junior world champion in giant slalom. He landed his first World Cup podium in 2015. At the 2022 Winter Olympics, he won both a bronze and a silver medal. Aleksander once shared his story involving skiing. He told The Owl Post:
"I got my first pair of skis when I was just three years old, and I immediately began to go up and down the hill opposite to our house. My earliest memories are of my whole family skiing with me, because snow was, and is, a source of joy for everyone."
On May 31, 2021, Aleksander hinted at having a relationship with Mikaela by sharing a snap featuring her and him. He captioned the post with a playful note, "If you know, you know... and now you know." After a few months in the same year, Aleksander spoke to Olympics.com and opened up about both his career and relationship. He shared that they were having an amazing time together. He mentioned how they share experiences and have conversations on things that he couldn’t share with anyone. He was quoted as saying:
"We're having an amazing time together. What I find really cool is that we can share experiences and have conversations about things I can't really have with anyone else. She has a lot of experience; I have some experience and we can make each other better. Also, you know, I like her as a person more than anything else. For me, that she's a skier is just a bonus. I really enjoy spending time with her, and that's what I keep in mind. Anything else is just a bonus."
Aleksander faced a serious crash when he was competing in Wengen, Switzerland. The injury was so brutal that he was airlifted to the hospital where he received treatment for his dislocated shoulder and a calf wound. After three months on April 4, 2024, Aleksander and Mikaela announced their engagement. However, six months after the injury, Aleksander was back in the hospital for an infection. Later, in July 2024, Aleksander shared a health update and mentioned that the infection was all gone. During the tough time, Mikaela supported his fiance and stood by his side, while he healed from his wounds.
After Mikaela got disqualified from the 2022 Beijing Olympics due to a fall, she reposted a snap of the grave incident on her X (formerly Twitter) handle. However, it was Aleksander’s message on the post that was all things wholesome. He called Mikaela a 'top athlete'. He wrote:
"When you look at this picture, you can make up so many statements, meanings and thoughts. Most of you probably look at it saying: 'she has lost it', 'she can't handle the pressure' or 'what happened?' Which makes me frustrated, because all I see is a top athlete doing what a top athlete does! ... It's all about the balanc,e and we are just normal human beings!! I love you Kaela."
After Mikaela had a fall at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, she was heartbroken. When Aleksander left a heartwarming message for her, Mikaela shared how he stood by her side through thick and thin. She also wished that every human find another human who will find a way to love just like her fiancé did for her. She wrote, "My hope for every human is that they find another human who finds a way to love, understand, and heal them in the way @AleksanderKilde has done and continues to for me."
