Recently, Rani completed 30 years in this industry, and now she is all set to return as 'Shivaji Shivani Roy'. It is the third instalment of the Mardaani franchise. The story of Mardaani 3 will revolve around 'Shivani Shivaji Roy', who will once again go on a manhunt. This time, 'Shivani' has been given the task of solving a case involving missing girls. As she goes deeper into the case, she finds out that it is linked to se***l violence and human tra*****ng. The film features Mallika Prasad as 'Amma', the main antagonist in Mardaani 3. Ever since the trailer of the film was released, there has been a huge buzz surrounding 'Shivani' and 'Amma' faceoff.
After the box office success of Mardaani 2, there has been a huge anticipation surrounding Mardaani 3. In a recent interview with NDTV, Rani opened up about her role in Mardaani 3. She also reflected on the origins of the franchise. Rani shared that as an artist, she could express her anger through a role like 'Shivani Shivaji Roy' towards the perpetrators of crime towards women. She mentioned that Mardaani 3 dealt with the horrific realities that happen to girls and children. She was quoted as saying:
"Mardaani, as I always say, it's basically all the anger that I have towards all the perpetrators of crime towards women. It was after the Nirbhaya case, as I always say, that the birth of Mardaani happened there. As an artist, I could express my anger through a role like this. It's not a film just about performing. It's also a film that deals with such horrific realities that happen to girls, to children, to women. Mardaani is my way of expressing that grief, that anger, and my way of telling all my sisters and all the beautiful women in the country that there is a power within us."
Rani Mukerji is the heart of the Mardaani franchise. Since the first instalment of the franchise, Rani has been the face. According to a Filmibeat report, Rani allegedly earned Rs. 7 crore. If the report is believed to be true, then Rani earned the highest paycheque for her role in Mardaani 3. As per the same report, Janki Bodiwala allegedly charged Rs. 1 crore. The main protagonist of Mardaani 3, Mallika Prasad, reportedly earned Rs. 40 lakhs.
Mardaani 3, the third instalment of the hit franchise, is helmed by Abhiraj Minawala. Earlier, the film was scheduled to hit the big screens on February 27, 2026. The action thriller is produced by Rani Mukerji’s husband and producer, Aditya Chopra, under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
