Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleA man believed to be in his 20s was recently mauled to death after he entered the Yorkshire Wildlife Park enclosure and was attacked by a tiger on October 10, 2026. While the incident is grabbing significant attention worldwide, many people were worried about whether the 30-stone Siberian tiger named Altai would be euthanized following the incident.
In fact, Tiger King star Carole Baskin pleaded with authorities not to kill the tiger. Now, a report surfaced claiming that the man made a 'bad' sign before the tiger killed him.
During the tiger attack, the man appeared to tell the tiger off by making a fist and wagging his little finger. However, his hand gesture sparked speculation online, and social media users on X are claiming that the man used the Makaton technique to communicate with the tiger. For the uninitiated, Makaton is a unique language system distinct from British Sign Language, which combines hand gestures, pictures, and speech to communicate.
Makaton is often used by people with difficulties expressing themselves. The moment of the attack went viral on social media. After watching the clip, a user wrote that the man’s hand gesture in Makaton means bad. The user wrote, "Using Makaton there when pointing his little finger with a clenched fist to say 'Bad.'" Another user penned, "He's using Makaton signs in the video, i.e., sticking his pinky up, which means 'bad.'"
The man was attacked by the tiger, Altai, at Yorkshire Wildlife Park on the afternoon of October 10, 2026. Two ambulances and a helicopter attended the park near Doncaster at around 1.35 p.m. Emergency workers put up a black screen around the tiger's enclosure to stop people from seeing what was happening while they tried to treat the injured man.
However, the man succumbed to death due to severe injuries. Zookeepers tried their best to save the man. They reportedly fired five loud blasts near Altai using acoustic devices to distract the animal and encourage it to move away from the man. On October 11, 2026, Yorkshire Wildlife Park authorities confirmed that the tiger would not be put down following the grave incident. They said:
"Many, many people have contacted us about Altai, the tiger. We can reassure everyone that he is safe and well and will not be euthanized as a result of this incident. We would like to thank everyone who has expressed their concern following yesterday's tragic incident."
A source told Manchester Evening News that the shots were fired into the air to make a noise and distract the mammal. The tiger was not shot and was absolutely fine and not injured. The insider added that the barriers of the tiger’s enclosure were huge. The source mentioned that the zookeepers did everything possible to save the man. The insider called the entire incident 'horrific'.
Another visitor said that after the tiger attack, she saw three female zookeepers sitting on the floor. One of them was very upset and had her head in her hands. Soon after the harrowing incident, a video showing the man’s final moments surfaced online. In one of the videos, the man asked another visitor to take a photo of him with the tiger, Altai, which was resting under a tree and playing with a fallen branch.
In fact, a witness told the Daily Mail that the man had a mobile phone and was wearing AirPods. Before climbing over the fence into the tiger's enclosure, he appeared to dance in the area where visitors watch the animals.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to the man's family.
