She is on trial for the horrific deaths of her three children in 2023. According to reports, Lindsay was suffering from severe postpartum anxiety. On August 13, 2026, jurors learned that Lindsay wanted a fourth child despite being overwhelmed by her three kids and suffering from postpartum mental illnesses.
According to Lindsay Clancy’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, Lindsay’s mental health deteriorated after the birth of their third child, Callan. On November 3, 2022, two months before she strangled her three kids, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months old, Lindsay opened her phone’s Notes app and wrote a heartfelt note. In a lengthy journal-like entry, Lindsay expressed her wish to have another kid after Callan. At the same time, she also wanted to consult a therapist before embracing motherhood for the fourth time. The secret note can be read as:
"I really want a fourth child, but I need a good therapist before then. I don’t want Cal to be our last, but I have a lot of figuring out to do."
In the long note, Lindsay admitted that she was sad and depressed because she couldn’t take care of Callan just like her older children. Lindsay mentioned that as she stopped breastfeeding Callan, it made her extremely sad. She shared that as a mom, she wanted to feel the love and connection with all her kids. Lindsay added that all her life, she wanted to have a lot of kids. In her words:
"I'm sad and depressed because I am not able to parent my third child like my first. I want to treat every one of my babies like my first. But I know that's not a feasible possibility. I'm sad that I stopped breastfeeding. I feel not as connected with Cal now. I think I sort of resent my other children because they prevent me from treating Cal like my first baby. I want to feel love and connection with all my kids. I'm also probably having a bit of an internal conflict because my whole life I've wanted to have a lot of kids."
On the same note, Lindsay shared that she was uncertain about starting a new medication for anxiety/depression. Lindsay mentioned that she just wanted to feel happy. She expressed her wish to stay relaxed and take care of her kids. But things were much harder for her. She wrote:
"I'm on the fence about starting a new medication for anxiety/depression. I just want to feel happy. I want to be able to relax and take care of my kids. But it's really hard for me. I'm sad I'm not breastfeeding anymore. But I think deep down these were the right choices."
Lindsay is accused of killing her three children using exercise bands at her Duxbury home before slitting her wrists and neck and throwing herself out of a second-story window on January 24, 2023. Her lawyer will ask the Plymouth County jury to declare her not guilty because she had mental illness when the harrowing incident happened.
According to Lindsay’s lawyer, she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis, a serious mental health condition that can occur after giving birth. In fact, in the next hearing, the lawyer will also highlight the several prescription medicines that Lindsay took, which made her condition worse.
