As per reports, Remini, who won two Emmys for her series exploring Scientology, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, will soon begin filming. Talking about her personal life, Remini was married to Angelo Pagán from 2003 to 2024, and the couple called it quits after 21 years.
Leah Remini first met Angelo Pagán in 1996 when he was performing at El Floridita, a Cuban club and restaurant in Los Angeles. It was love at first sight, as Remini recalled in a conversation with Redbook magazine. In the same interaction, she also revealed that they worked together on various occasions throughout their marriage.
In 2003, Remini and Pagán exchanged their wedding vows, and in 2004, they welcomed their daughter, Sofia Bella. Pagán also has three sons from a previous relationship. Throughout their marriage, Pagan was Remini’s biggest supporter, especially when she left Scientology in 2013.
In a 2015 interview with ABC News' 20/20, Remini said she was scared of the repercussions when she decided to leave the church, as she didn't know if her family would stand by her. However, through it all, Pagan was by her side both in person and on social media.
Everything looked fine in their relationship until Remini and Pagán revealed in a joint Instagram post that they were divorcing after 21 years of marriage. It was a shock to her fans as the couple always looked head over heels in love with one another. In their statement, the couple also revealed the reason behind their split and penned:
“To put it simply, we both changed, as people do, and we got used to playing roles that didn't fit us anymore. Our bond is still strong—it’s just evolved into something different. From our perspective, this marriage was a huge success. And now, we’re looking forward to creating even more cherished moments—just in a different way."
The date of their separation was August 1, 2024, and as per the court documents, the reason behind the split was ‘irreconcilable differences’. The former couple settled their divorce on October 11, 2024, and agreed to the terms of their split in mediation, keeping the details confidential.
Pagán was born and raised in the Bronx, but his family is originally from Puerto Rico. Pagan is a singer and actor who began his career in acting in the ‘80s and ‘90s. He appeared in several projects along with Remini, including The King of Queens, Fired Up, Kevin Can Wait, and In the Motherhood. Apart from acting, Pagan is also a singer, producer, and entrepreneur. Pagán also runs a restaurant with Remini's mother and stepfather.
When he met Remini, Pagán was working as a singer. During a 2019 interview on the eponymous talk show RuPaul, Remini recalled meeting her husband in 1996 when he was singing at El Floridita, a Cuban club and restaurant in L.A. Recalling her first reaction, Remini said:
“I saw him across the room and was like, 'Damn! What time do you get off?' "
