Recently, while responding to a fan who said they would stop watching the daytime drama series if Laura should ever leave, she quickly assured them that it won't happen anytime soon.
Laura claimed that she is “not going anywhere” as she just signed a new contract. Her revelation has now shifted the focus to her personal life, with many wondering about why she split with her ex-husband, John Wright.
Before Laura Wright rose to fame as ‘Carly Spencer,' she was known by her maiden name, Laura Sisk. Her daytime television career began when she appeared on All My Children. Following this, she starred in Loving and Guiding Light, before Laura made her way to Port Charles, another series that fans love her for. At the time, she was a fresh-faced actor who barely had any time for her personal life.
During an interview with Soap Opera Digest, the actress admitted, “I'm not interested in dating anyone right now. I don't want anything to take my mind off of work.” However, she soon changed her mind when she met her future husband, John Wright.
Laura and John tied the knot in 1995 and welcomed two kids together, John Michael and Lauren. While they looked like the perfect couple from outwards, their fairytale romance came crashing down years later. In 2014, the General Hospital star claimed that things between her and John felt like they were falling apart. Later, Laura shocked fans in April 2016, when she released a statement about her divorce. She said:
"We remain committed and dedicated to our two wonderful children and will always be a supportive, loving family of four - we are just doing it differently now!"
During an interview, Laura elaborated about her decision to get a divorce. According to her, it felt like starting her life again. Calling the process both “interesting” and “painful,” she said:
"It's a very interesting process, you know, to be in your 40s, getting divorced, being on a TV show, having kids going off to college and have to go, 'Wow, who am I now?' It was a painful time. Believe me, I tried to run from it, probably for the first year and a half."
While speaking with Maurice Benard on his State of Mind series, the actress confessed that she was in denial during her separation from John Wright. In fact, Laura stated that navigating the separation and divorce almost broke her. In her words:
"That version of me had to die for me to be reborn as who I am now. Because I really was broken, and it was a death."
Following her split from John Wright, Laura found love again in her co-star Wes Ramsey. Since she began dating him, Laura has managed to blend her family. For instance, both Wes and John Wright were present when the actress celebrated her son, John Michael's college graduation. Wes was reportedly also part of the Wright family's Christmas celebrations.
Coming to whether Laura would be willing to give marriage another try, she has left it up to fate. In 2021, when the actress was asked about her marriage plans to Wes, she replied with, "We get asked that question, I can't tell you. Right now, we're good. Life is good. We don't really feel the need to. It's not calling us. But we love our life and life is good."
