Anne Burrell was once one of the most beloved American celebrity chefs and television personalities. She was best known for her numerous appearances on the Food Network, especially on shows like Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and Worst Cooks in America. Her death in 2025 left the entire culinary world in a state of shock as the manner of her death was ruled as a su*cide by thecheid medical examiner in New york. Now, almost a year after Anne's passing, new details about her death have been released in a recent police report.

Did chef, Anne Burrell leave a “su*cidal note” on the morning of her death? 

Chef, Anne Burrell was 55 years old when she passed away on June 17, 2025. Recently, a new report by the New York City Police Department revealed that a “su*cidal note” was found from within Anne's primary bedroom in her Brooklyn home. It was an investigator who found it in her home on the day she died. Not only this, the report further stated that they also discovered several other “su*cidal” journal entries in her house. Reportedly, these were found on top of her bed in the same room. It is worth noting that as of now, officials have not yet released any information about what Anne had written in the note or those journal entries.

What the police documents did confirm was that it was Anne Burrell's husband, Stuart Claxton who first noticed that something was amiss in the early morning hours of June 17, 2025. One of the first things he saw in their room was that the bed was fully made, something which was “not normal” for Anne. When he started looking for his wife, he soon found Anne lying on the bathroom floor. To add to the shocking sight, Stuart saw that next to her were a “bunch of over-the-counter pills on the floor.” To mention, in the police reports, Stuart was not mentioned by name but instead as an individual being “married to Anne.”

Based on a report by People, after finding Anne in that condition, Stuart attempted to wake her up by “shaking her and slapping her face.” After releasing that Anne remained unresponsive despite his attempts, Stuart soon called 911. The police report revealed that at a subsequent interview with the authorities, Stuart confessed that his wife had “never attempted su*cide in the past.” She had also never shown “any signs that she would do something like this.”

What did the medical examiner find at the time of Anne Burrell's death? 

A month after the incident, in July 2025, Anne Burrell's death was ruled a su*cide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in New York City. They revealed that Anne's death happened from “acute intoxication.” As determined by the musical examiner, the same was apparently caused by the combined effects of diphenhydramine and cetirizine (both antihistamines), ethanol (alcohol), and amphetamine. According to reports, these are often used to treat ADHD.

When news of Anne Burrell's sudden and tragic demise was first shared, her representatives released a statement. In the statement, the Food Network star was described as a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend whose “smile lit up every room.” Not only this, they further added that Anne Burrell was such a warm person that her spirit touched a huge number of people, and even after her passing, she would continue to remain in people's hearts.
