Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleKit Harington is best known for his breakout role as 'Jon Snow' in HBO's global hit Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2019. The role earned him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and made him a worldwide star. Since then, he has appeared in Marvel's Eternals, Industry, Gunpowder, and on stage in the West End’s Doctor Faustus and True West.
The actor is currently in the headlines as he has joined the cast of the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO. Kit will play 'Gilderoy Lockhart.' Amid the latest update, Kit Harington’s career and personal life have come into the limelight. For the unversed, he has been married to actress Rose Leslie since 2018.
Kit and Rose first met in 2011 on the set of Game of Thrones Season 2. At the time, Kit was already established as 'Jon Snow,' the brooding hero of the Night's Watch. Rose joined as 'Ygritte,' the fierce Wildling from beyond the Wall. Their characters fell in love on screen in Iceland during filming, and that chemistry quickly carried off screen. Though they were first spotted together in public in 2012, they kept things very private at first.
For years, the pair denied or dodged dating rumors. They lived together in London, were photographed at events, and briefly split in 2013 before reconciling. Rose left Game of Thrones after Season 4 when 'Ygritte' died in 'Jon's' arms, a scene Kit later said was hard to film for personal reasons. During this time, Rose built her own career with roles in Downton Abbey and The Good Fight, while Kit stayed with Game of Thrones through its peak.
In September 2017, they made it official with an engagement announcement in The Times newspaper, in the traditional British style. Kit Harington later revealed he popped the question in the countryside, with a plan to put up fairy lights that went wrong.
On June 23, 2018, they married at Rayne Church in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, near Rose's family estate at Wardhill Castle. It was a small, traditional Scottish wedding. Kit arrived in a kilt, Rose wore a lace gown with a veil, and co-stars, including Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and Peter Dinklage. A vintage Land Rover took them away from the reception.
The couple has worked to stay out of the spotlight since marriage. In February 2021, they welcomed their first child, a son. Kit spoke about how becoming a father changed his perspective after he struggled with fame and sobriety after Thrones ended. Then, in July 2023, they had their second child, a daughter.
Today they split their time between London and their Tudor manor house in East Anglia, which was purchased in 2017. Both continue to act, but often talk about prioritizing family over red carpets.
HBO has cast Kit Harington as 'Gilderoy Lockhart' for its upcoming Harry Potter television series. The show is scheduled to premiere on Christmas 2026. The role initially offered to Nicholas Hoult, who has had to step away from the second season due to scheduling issues. Harington's casting marks his third project with HBO.
In a conversation with Collider, Kit opened up about his excitement to play the role in the new show, saying that he was excited to be a part of it. He described himself as a lifelong fan of the books and said 'Lockhart' is among his favorite characters, so getting a chance to play him felt like a dream.
This is not his first outing as the character. Harington previously voiced 'Lockhart' for Audible's new full-cast edition of the Harry Potter audiobooks, which he said gave him a head start. He explained that while the audiobook performance will not be identical to how he approaches the role on screen, the experience allowed him to explore the character and get a feel for him. He described Lockhart as a brilliantly written character.
