While the singer has alleged that the store is lying about the bird not being for sale, the store has clarified that they never intended to sell the Singing Bird they have named Molly. Amid the buzz, let's take a quick look at what the Singing Bird is and what the Pretty Woman reference was.
Kelly Clarkson has called out a Brooklyn toy store after she was allegedly mistreated during a visit. The singer shared her experience on X on October 10, 2026, and revealed that her experience at the store was straight out of Pretty Woman. In a lengthy post, Kelly explained that she drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out Art of Play, as she thought that it was really 'rad'.
However, when she entered the store, the staff there looked at her as if she could not afford anything. She went on to call the person an "idiot" and claimed that they lost out on a major sale. Kelly Clarkson compared the incident to being treated as Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman and said:
"Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn't afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me. Wow, dude. You're an idiot and just lost a huge sale. But y'all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out."
For those who are not familiar with Pretty Woman, Kelly Clarkson's reference was to a scene where Julia Roberts' character goes shopping. However, she is rudely told that she was "in the wrong place" and the clothes were too expensive for her. The next day, she goes back to the store with several shopping bags, dressed in fancier clothes. She tells the staff they made a "Big mistake. Big. Huge!"
According to reports, Molly the Singing Bird on Wall is a design by Bliss Kolb. They have described it as a unique instrument. The mechanism is initially installed at waist height, and the bird is just above eye level. The page explains that it has seven movements and sings a simple bird song, which is produced by a leather bellows that blows air through the brass whistle.
According to Bliss Kolb Design, these birds can range from USD 4,000 to USD 12,000. The price can vary depending on the schedule. These pieces may be available to order individually. Regarding the controversy, Art of Play has alleged that they have been very clear that the bird is not for sale, as it is a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton and a crucial part of its magic shows.
However, Kelly Clarkson has pointed out that there was a price tag on the wall. The singer is now calling the store staff not just rude but also "liars". However, many of the store's customers have come forward to show their support.
