The 1987 film, The Experts, contributed a lot to bringing John Travolta and Kelly Preston close to each other. The duo worked together for the first time. However, the romance did not start immediately during that period. This was because Kelly was married to Kevin Gage at that time. The pair tied the knot in 1985. But the marriage did not last long, leading to their divorce two years later in 1987.
John Travolta made his move a few years after Kelly Preston and Kevin Gage’s divorce. While he realised that the actress was not in a relationship anymore, he proposed to her at a restaurant in Switzerland in early 1991. Kelly initially reacted with a scream, as claimed by producer, Jonathan Krane. A few months after the proposal, John Travolta and Kelly Preston exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Paris in September 1991.
John Travolta and Kelly Preston expanded their family when they had a son named Jett in 1992. John had even expressed happiness about the fact that he became a father, saying that he was holding his son for a few hours while his wife was resting. Moreover, Travolta was so attracted to Jett that he even tried to stop anyone from taking him for some particular tests. The duo had a daughter, named Ella Bleu, in 2000, who has already established herself in the entertainment industry.
While things were going fine, John Travolta’s family witnessed an unexpected tragedy with the death of Jett in 2009. A family attorney, Michael Ossi, said in a statement shared through the actor’s representative that Jett had a seizure when all of them were enjoying a vacation at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel. Jett was transported to the Rand Memorial Hospital after he injured his head on a bathtub, and a caretaker discovered him in an unconscious state. However, he could not be saved.
A year after Jett’s death, John Travolta and Kelly Preston became the parents of a son named Benjamin in 2010. As of 2026, Benjamin is 15 years old, and John has continued sharing glimpses of his son on various occasions through Instagram. Back in 2025, John shared a post on the occasion of Benjamin’s birthday, which included a photo of his son posing in an outdoor location. Travolta wrote in the caption that he cannot believe the fact that his son grew up so quickly.
Kelly Preston passed away in July 2020. While speaking to PEOPLE, a family representative said that the actress died during the morning hours and was struggling with breast cancer for almost two years. The statement reads that Kelly never revealed her health issues to anyone and was getting support from her close ones while she underwent treatment for her condition. John Travolta paid tribute to his wife three months later on the occasion of her birthday. He posted a photo on Instagram at that time, which was captured on the day of their wedding.
