John F. Kennedy Jr. was a well-known journalist and attorney. Compared to his father, JFK Jr. took a completely different path in terms of his career. His overall journey remained a subject of discussion for the entire media until his demise in 1999 at the age of 38. JFK Jr. initially worked at the Office of Business Development in 1984 and later moved to a law firm in 1988. He even worked for The New York Times and established a monthly fashion magazine called George in 1995.

Although George's popularity faded at one point, John F. Kennedy Jr. grabbed attention for other reasons, including his participation in the campaign of his cousin, Patrick J. Kennedy, who was seeking a seat in the Rhode Island House of Representatives. Outside the world of journalism, John F. Kennedy Jr.’s personal life also created headlines. As mentioned, Carolyn Bessette was working at Calvin Klein before her death. Notably, she was active in the publicity department of the company when she first met John F. Kennedy Jr. Carolyn was approached by JFK Jr. for a fitting at Calvin Klein’s VIP showroom in 1992, and the latter invited Carolyn to an event with a group. Although Carolyn and JFK Jr. did not get enough time to speak to each other at the event, they attended another gala in the same year, where they had a conversation for an hour.

John F. Kennedy Jr. was reportedly pursuing Carolyn Bessette after his separation from Daryl Hannah in 1994. While speaking to PEOPLE, Carolyn’s friend, Gustavo Paredes, claimed that Carolyn refused a commitment since she did not believe that JFK Jr. was serious. JFK Jr.’s friend Brian Steel also said in an interview in 2018 that he was initially unhappy about the rejection. Although the duo started dating at one point in 1994, they separated after JFK Jr. reconciled with his ex, Daryl Hannah, in the same year.

Although John F. Kennedy Jr. had resolved his issues with Daryl Hannah, the relationship did not last long, leading to a permanent split in 1994. Following the separation, John and Carolyn started dating each other once again. A year later, JFK Jr. proposed to Carolyn Bessette when they were enjoying a boat ride in 1995. Bessette did not respond immediately and took three weeks to accept it. George magazine’s chief of staff, RoseMarie Terenzio, claimed in 2019 that John was very old-fashioned, which was possibly a reason he wanted to tie the knot with Carolyn as soon as possible.

John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette’s wedding was organised in September 1996 at Cumberland Island, Georgia. The marriage ceremony witnessed the presence of only 32 guests in a destination far away from the coast of Georgia. Since 32 guests were invited, all of them were told to show a special Indian nickel when they came to the wedding. Journalist and author Carole Radziwill described the wedding as “one of the best-kept secrets of modern time” in a piece published by the Daily Mail in 2019.

While things were going fine in the beginning, John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette’s marriage started facing troubles in 1998. The issues began with rumours of Carolyn allegedly cheating on JFK Jr. with a model named Michael Bergin. The Kennedy Heirs, a book by J. Randy Taraborrelli, also alleged that JFK Jr. had once reportedly punched a man who was allegedly spotted kissing Carolyn in 1998. In 1999, JFK Jr. allegedly told a close friend that Carolyn used to ignore him whenever he brought up the topic of having kids, and they had become strangers.

John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette were accompanied by the latter’s sister, Lauren, when they were traveling to Martha’s Vineyard in 1999. JFK Jr. was reportedly flying the plane even though he had not completed his training as a pilot. However, the plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, and the dead bodies were discovered five days after the incident. JFK Jr.’s body was allegedly found in the cockpit.
