Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO may have ended their nearly decade-long marriage, but their lives remain largely unchanged when it comes to parenting or even family planning. Unlike many divorced couples who spend years navigating custody battles and co-parenting disputes, the country singer and the podcaster appear to have parted ways on remarkably amicable terms.

The former spouses may have officially ended their marriage, but their plans to have a child together remain intact. Even so, both were warned that doing so after their divorce could lead to potential legal complications.

Why were Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO warned against baby planning after divorce?

A new report by Page Six recently revealed what the legal documents have stated about Jelly and Bunnie's marital dissolution agreement. Both parties have reportedly acknowledged receiving "separate" legal advice about using their genetic material after their divorce.

The documents state that the pair was warned that evolving reproductive technology and changing case law could create legal consequences involving their embryos or other genetic materials if they procreate as a divorced couple. Their attorneys also noted that the couple was informed about the consequences.

Page Six quoted their statement, "There may be consequences pertaining to this Agreement with respect to their genetic materials, due to evolving technology and case law; as well as the ‘interim category’ of interest afforded to said genetic materials."

Although both attorneys admitted they "are not experts with regard to genetic and reproductive rights," the former couple was advised to seek independent legal counsel specializing in genetics and fertility issues before signing the agreement.

However, the pair chose not to consult specialists. The court papers mentioned that both Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO "specifically" decided against it. The court documents don't specify any immediate consequences, nor do they prohibit Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO from having a child together. But legal experts say reproductive agreements involving embryos or genetic material can get tricky after divorce, especially if disputes arise down the line.

Because the couple is now legally divorced, having a child together can potentially complicate parental rights and responsibilities, consent for the future use of frozen embryos or genetic material, financial responsibilities associated with surrogacy or IVF, and inheritance and estate planning for a future child.

Because reproductive laws vary from state to state and continue to change, it’s impossible to know how divorce agreements entered into before will interact with reproductive choices made after. That’s why attorneys often recommend drafting separate agreements specifically dealing with future children conceived after a divorce.

What former couple has said about their baby planning

Despite ending their marriage, Bunnie XO has made it clear that motherhood remains a priority for her. In a June 2026 episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast, she revealed that she and Jelly Roll still plan to welcome a child through surrogacy. According to Bunnie, the Grammy-nominated country star, who already shares two children from previous relationships, supports the idea of having and raising their child together even when divorced.

The former couple has been open about their parenthood journey for years, with Bunnie previously sharing details of their IVF experience. She admitted that enduring multiple embryo losses left both of them emotionally drained, and the difficult experience ultimately added to the strain on their marriage.

Regarding their divorce settlement, most other details have been kept under wraps. Beyond their reproductive plans, the settlement outlines several measures intended to help the former couple move forward amicably.

The financial details of Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO’s divorce have not been revealed, but the duo reached an amicable resolution on how to divide their assets. The settlement said they split ownership of their planes, cars, homes, intellectual property and other jointly held assets. Jelly Roll also agreed to pay a one-time lump sum to Bunnie, but the amount is undisclosed.
