Jay Bhanushali and Mahhij Vij's 16-year-old marriage came to an end, and it left many in shock. Jay and Mahhi, in their divorce announcement, clearly stated that there is no villain in their story, and they do not want to be part of any drama, yet the actor's name was linked with another woman, who is 20 years younger than him. Amidst it, Jay shared the first photo after the divorce announcement.
On January 5, 2026, Jay took to his Instagram handle and posted a picture with his daughter, Tara, as his IG story. In the IG story, Tara was wearing her school dress, and her hair was tied at the back, and Jay looked smart in casual wear. The two cutely smiled for the camera, and it was a wholesome moment shared by the father-daughter duo.
For the unversed, after Jay and Mahhi announced their divorce, a Reddit post claimed that Jay had cheated on Mahhi. The woman in question is Alisha Shaikh, and a picture of Jay with her was shared on the discussion platform. It is worth mentioning that BollywoodShaadis does not ascertain the claims.
Coming back to Jay and Mahhi's divorce, since the start of 2025, fans noticed the two have stopped posting any pictures or videos with each other. The couple maintained a safe distance. And when Mahhi started vlogging, Jay was nowhere in her videos. In fact, when she moved to a new place, there was no mention of her husband, which sparked their divorce buzz. While Jay maintained his silence throughout, Mahhi told her fans not to speculate and give them privacy.
Later, in January 2026, Mahhi and Jay announced their divorce through a joint post on Instagram. In the long note, Jay and Mahhi confirmed parting ways. They stated that for the sake of their children they are going to be the best parents and best friends. Mahhi further in the statement clarified that there is no villian in their story and requested netizens to not speculate or judge their situation. A part of their divorce statement can be read as:
"Today we choose to part ways on a journey called life, yet we continue to have each other's back. Peace, growth, kindness and humanity have always been our guiding values. For the sake of our children - Tara, Khushi, Rajveer, we commit to being the best parents, the best friends and whatever else it takes to do what is right for them."
Talking about alimony, a close friend of Mahhi spoke to The Times of India and revealed that Mahhi is not going to seek alimony from Jay. She genuinely wants him to grow in his life. She doesn't want him to suffer and be in pain due to the divorce. The two still share a great bond and want the best for each other. Jay also has immense respect for Mahhi, and they do not want to end their relationship on a sour note with blame games and ugly revelations.
