Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleRob Reiner and Michele Reiner’s double murder case had sent shockwaves around the world. The grave incident took place in December 2025. The couple was found dead at their Los Angeles home by their daughter, Romy. Now, in his first interview following the murders, Jake Reiner spoke with KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Robles about his parents, his childhood and how his life has changed since the tragedy.
In a recent conversation with KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Robles, Jake Reiner opened up about his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner’s death. He shared that during these eight months he felt both impossibly long and startlingly immediate. Jake explained that while it’s been eight months since Rob and Michele were murdered, he felt like it’s been eight years. Recalling the time when he first came to know about his parents’ death, Jake shared:
"It’s been 8 months. It feels like 8 years at the same time. And it also feels like 8 minutes. Because every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality. Romy told me our dad was dead, and then she said, 'I can’t find Mom.'"
During the same conversation, Jake got candid about his life after the tragic incident. He shared that losing his parents, Rob and Michele, was already devastating, but his younger brother Nick's arrest made the situation even more painful. He explained that he has physically lost both parents, and his brother is now in jail, leaving him and Romy as the remaining siblings together. Recently, the brother and sister duo has also testified before the grand jury that later indicted Nick.
For those unaware, Nick is currently in jail without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on September 15, 2026. Earlier, in April 2026, Jake, in a raw personal essay, opened up about his tragic loss of his parents. He released the essay on April 24, 2026, on Substack. Recalling the moment he learned about his parents’ murder from his sister, Jake wrote:
"The 45-minute Lyft ride from downtown to the west side was unendurable. My world, as I knew it, had collapsed. I was in a trance. The only thing I could focus on was getting to my childhood home. I needed to get to my sister. I needed to figure out what the hell just happened."
Further, in the same essay, Jake shared that he felt he was 'robbed of so many things'. Jake, who is Rob and Michele’s older son, expressed his grief over their passing, as they would never be there for major milestones in his life. Thinking about this makes him extremely melancholic and also angry because he feels those experiences were unfairly taken away from him. He admitted that nothing could have prepared him for losing both parents at the same time. Describing their death as a living nightmare, Jake wrote:
"My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career I’m still seeking. It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me. Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time. It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare."
