Coming to his personal life, Jasprit has been happily married to sports journalist, Sanjana Ganesan, for 4 years. But do you know that in the middle of IPL 2020, Jasprit proposed to his ladylove, Sanjana? Yes, you read it right. According to a report by TOI, Jasprit Bumrah first crossed paths with his ladylove, Sanjana Ganesan, in the 2013-2014 season of IPL, but the duo didn’t interact with each other. Years later, the couple again met during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England. However, the popular sports journalist and presenter misinterpreted his shy nature. She thought that Jasprit might be in a relationship. But things resolved when the two spoke to each other. In the podcast, Who’s The Boss, hosted by Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra, Sanjana recalled their first awkward meeting. She was quoted as saying:
"This was in 2019 during the World Cup. I was around the Indian team during practices. The other boys like DK (Dinesh Karthik) used to wave and say hi. Jasprit was in the group but made this face, like 'I'm not going to say hi or even make eye contact. Mujhe laga maybe girlfriend hogi, wife hogi. I was like either I've done something wrong, or that's his personality! Once we spoke, we understood each other. Turns out, he's not like that at all."
In an interview with Sky Sports, Jasprit shared he had seen Sanjana a lot of times, but they had the same problem. Jasprit mentioned that they considered each other to be arrogant, so they didn’t have any conversation. He highlighted that it was during the 2019 World Cup that he spoke to Sanjana for the first time. She was covering the event. The duo became friends and started talking a lot.
During a conversation with Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra, Jasprit Bumrah and his now-wife, Sanjana Ganesan, recalled the moment from their engagement. In the middle of IPL 2020 in the UAE, the cricketer had planned to propose to Sanjana. However, the situation became tough due to security measures. Apart from the ground interactions, the couple couldn’t meet due to the bubble.
While Sanjana was in KKR, Jasprit was in the Mumbai Indians. But the fast bowler managed to arrange a perfect scene for their engagement with the help of the IPL officials. When Sanjana arrived, Jasprit placed the cake, decorated everything in the room, and had the ring ready. He proposed to his ladylove on the balcony, which was decorated with candles. Recalling the scene, Sanjana said:
"I’ve come to the room and he’s telling me, ‘balcony mein chalo’. I am like, I’ve just walked in, at least give me water. But he’s like, nahi nahi balcony mein chalo."
After dating for two years, Jasprit tied the knot with the love of his life, Sanjana, in a private ceremony in Goa on March 15, 2021. They followed the Sikh traditions in their wedding ceremony. The ceremony was attended by the couple's close friends and family. On September 4, 2023, the couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Angad. Sharing a glimpse of their newborn baby, Jasprit wrote on social media:
"Our little family has grown & our hearts are fuller than we could ever imagine! This morning we welcomed our little boy, Angad Jasprit Bumrah into the world. We are over the moon and can’t wait for everything this new chapter of our lives brings with it - Jasprit and Sanjana."
