For the unversed, bottom surgery is reportedly a gender-affirming surgery.
In a recent interview with ELLE, Hunter Schafer spoke candidly about her experiences with queerness, identity, and gender-affirming care. She explained that queerness is all about possibilities, personal growth, and discovering who a person is. She then identified herself as a woman. She said:
"I feel like that’s the magical thing about queerness. On an ideological level, it’s about possibility and expansion and growth, and being on that journey and finding yourself….I’m a woman. I’m a girl."
Schafer explained that she has thought deeply about queerness, both as an idea and as something people experience in everyday life. She said there can be a difference between understanding queerness in theory and experiencing it in the real world. She then revealed that she underwent bottom surgery in December 2025, as part of her gender-affirming care. She said:
"I wrestled with queerness as an idea and philosophy versus how it applies and works in real life, in the context of the world that we’re living in. I feel like there’s always a tension there. I just had bottom surgery in December, which was amazing, and I love it so much."
Earlier, in a 2024 interview with GQ, Hunter spoke about the pressure she felt because she is one of the most well-known transgender people in the entertainment industry. Schafer, who played 'Jules' in Euphoria, explained that she had been turning down many acting roles specifically written for transgender characters. She wanted people to recognize her for her acting skills and the work she does, rather than always identifying her as a transgender actress.
Hunter shared that whenever she mentioned being trans, it quickly becomes the main focus of the conversation. She also admitted that she sometimes felt guilty for not speaking out more as a spokesperson for the transgender community. She believed that focusing on her career and achieving greater success could help the transgender community more than constantly talking about being trans. By taking on different roles, she hoped to contribute to the community in her own way.

According to reports, Hunter’s longest and most public relationship had been with her Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike. Later, in a 2023 interview with Elle UK, Schafer opened up about dating Fike. She shared how they supported each other emotionally. She described their relationship as a 'safety net', meaning they could rely on each other for comfort and support. However, by July 2023, Dominic hinted that they had broken up during an interview with Apple Music.
In August 2024, Schafer broke her silence on the breakup, revealing the relationship actually ended because Fike allegedly cheated on her. Cut to September 2026, fans spotted the pair together at multiple locations, fueling speculation that they were reconciling.
