Brandon Blackstock passed away in 2025, and the news arrived three years after his divorce from Kelly Clarkson was finalized. Let's have a look at the circumstances leading to Brandon's death.
Kelly Clarkson has been one of the most popular faces on television. She has also been active as a singer, working with record labels like RCA and Atlantic. Kelly’s debut album, Thankful, was released back in 2003. This was followed by more projects for the next few years, such as Breakaway, My December, All I Ever Wanted, Stronger, Wrapped in Red, Piece by Piece, Meaning of Life, and more. Kelly has also been the winner of American Idol Season 1 and has been a part of other shows like Duets and American Song Contest.
Kelly Clarkson is currently creating headlines as she has revealed through Instagram on February 3, 2026 (ET) that the ongoing season of The Kelly Clarkson Show will be the last. Kelly thanked the entire crew that has been involved with her show for all the seasons alongside the fans. Addressing the reasons behind ending the show, Kelly said that she wants to prioritize her children for now, adding that she will continue making music and appearing on shows like The Voice. For the unversed, Kelly has two children, born from her marriage to Brandon Blackstock, who passed away on August 7, 2025.
Brandon Blackstock was suffering from melanoma, a form of skin cancer, which eventually led to his demise on August 7, 2025. The cause of death was revealed by Dan Hollis, the Silver Bow County Coroner, who said that Brandon died at his Montana-based residence and was under hospice care. The news was first announced by a representative for Brandon Blackstock’s family, who said that he had been struggling with cancer for more than three years. The representative stated that Brandon was surrounded by his closest people at the time of his death.
Kelly Clarkson was busy with her Las Vegas residency when Brandon Blackstock started dealing with his health issues. A day before Brandon’s death was announced, Kelly took to her Instagram handle on August 6, 2025, to announce that she was postponing the remaining shows of her Las Vegas residency. Kelly wrote that she usually prefers to keep her personal life away from the limelight. Kelly disclosed that her children’s father was ill and she needed to be with the kids. Kelly also apologised to all those who purchased the tickets for her shows.
Back in 2020, Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock. The same year, the primary physical custody of their kids was given to Kelly. A year after Kelly filed for divorce, a judge declared in 2021 that she was legally single, with a source saying at that time that Kelly was having a great time with her children. The divorce was finalized in 2022, three years before Brandon’s death, and Kelly was ordered to pay child support of USD 45,601 per month. Kelly was also told to pay USD 1.3 million.
Just like his ex-wife, Brandon Blackstock was working in the same industry. He was an executive producer of The Kelly Clarkson Show. Brandon was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and he began his career at Startstruck Entertainment, helping musicians such as Blake Shelton establish themselves in the music industry. Brandon Blackstock even worked for Rascal Flatts as a road manager. While Brandon had two children from his marriage to Kelly Clarkson, he was also the father of two more, born from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth.
