The Supreme Court of India has allowed passive euthanasia in the case of Harish Rana. Now, his family, associated with the Brahma Kumaris, called Kumari Lovely Didi, who reportedly visited Harish Rana's home on March 13, 2026. She bid him a peaceful farewell before he was taken to AIIMS Delhi, where Harish's life support withdrawal process will take place. A video has gone viral where Harish Rana is seen in a vegetative state, his mouth wide open, while Kumari Lovely Didi was seen applying sandalwood tilak on his forehead. She touched the forehead of Harish Rana, addressed him softly and said:
"Sabko maaf karte huei. Sabse maafi mangte huei abhi jao, theek hai."
The video of Harish Rana getting his final farewell is heart-wrenching. The silence in the video was so loud that even Harish's breathing was audible. A user seeing the video wrote, "Is he in a coma? If so, how can he blink? And if he is in a vegetative state? Where is his ventilator?" Another user, seeing the video of Harish Rana, said that this story is deeply painful. No family should ever have to go through such a moment. A part of the comment read:
"When someone dies suddenly, people around them feel shock and sadness. But watching a loved one slowly slip away in front of your eyes is a different kind of pain. It is a silent heartbreak that lasts for years. That is what this family has faced for more than a decade. For 13 long years, Harish’s parents cared for him day and night. They fed him, protected him, and waited with hope. Every day they probably prayed for a miracle."
For the unversed, Harish Rana fell from the fourth-floor balcony of his PG accommodation back in 2013. Due to the fall, he faced severe brain traumatic injury that left him totally disabled and in a vegetative state. When the Supreme Court announced that passive euthanasia will be granted to the young man, his father, in an interview with the ANI, shared:
"We have got what we wanted. I fought for three years. Which father and mother want this for their son? We do not know how many people are in a condition like Harish's. May this benefit them, too. The matter went from the high court to the Supreme Court and we got success today."
Harish Rana has been given a tracheostomy tube to assist with respiration, and a gastrojejunostomy tube has been inserted for feeding. The Supreme Court asserted that Harish Rana has the right to die with dignity. The doctors who have been treating Harish had earlier declared that the chances of his recovering are nonexistent. His family had exhausted their funds and sold their home to continue his medical treatment.
