For the unversed, Rachel Brothwick left for the heavenly abode on March 22, 2026. She was a mother of two kids. It was in September 2021 that Rachel discovered a lump, and after her diagnosis, it was revealed that she had triple-negative breast cancer. After getting it treated, in March 2023, she found out about her tumour diagnosis. As per reports, she was in Delhi, India. She was surrounded by her parents on her side. She was in India for medical treatment.
On March 25, 2026, Graham announced her death with an Instagram post. He shared a post of his wife, Rachel, with their two children, and penned a heart-wrenching note. He shared how no words can explain the pain and sadness he might go through to explain to their children that their mother is not coming home. He added how these two kids were her whole world and her only motivation in the past few years while she was going through the illness. He penned:
"No words can describe the pain and sadness of having to explain to my babies that their beautiful Mummy and best friend will not be coming home They are her whole world and always will be. It was her only motivation over these past few years dealing with this horrible illness. Our babies will always remember how unbelievably strong and brave you have been until the very end. I know you will always be looking down on them protecting them and guiding them."
Graham further added that his kids can take comfort in the fact that their mother is no longer in pain. He is hoping that Rachel rests in peace. The footballer further mentioned that his wife passed away at CK Birla Hospital with her parents by her side. He revealed that his wife believed that there were no options available for her in the UK. She wanted to fight the illness as long as she could for the sake of her children. He wrote:
"Rachel made the decision to travel to India for treatment because she believed there were no further options available to her in the UK. She was determined to keep fighting for as long as possible—for herself, and most importantly, for her children. That determination, hope, and love defined her until the very end. We are heartbroken beyond words. Rachel was a deeply loved daughter, granddaughter, sister, mother, auntie, niece, cousin and friend, and the space she leaves behind can never be filled."
Rachel Brothwick was diagnosed with cancer four times in over two years. In an interview with The Courier, Rachel had shared her ordeal. She said that it was like a joke for her now, as she found a little lump, and it was confirmed that it was cancer. It has become a norm for her. She shared:
"I really cannot believe I’m having to write this again, it’s getting beyond a joke now. I found another little lump last week, and it was confirmed as more cancer on Thursday. It’s scary that it’s almost becoming the ‘norm’ for me now. Three recurrences in the space of eight months. Being told I have cancer four times in just two years is just too much."
We pray for strength for Graham Carey and his children as they navigate the difficult time.
