Govinda Was Cursed By Producer Harmesh Malhotra's Wife After His Death, She Prayed For His Downfall

Govinda's professional life took a setback after an alleged curse by producer Harmesh Malhotra's wife.

Govinda was one of the most bankable stars in the late '80s and early '90s. Counted among the highest-paid actors, Govinda’s fame multiplied with every film. With films like Hero No. 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Partner, Bhagam Bhag, and many more, Govinda appeared in more than 165 Hindi films. But suddenly, everything went downhill? What went wrong in his life? Did the alleged curse by producer Harmesh Malhotra’s wife doom the actor’s entire career? 

What were the problems between Govinda and producer Harmesh Malhotra?

Back in 1998, when Govinda was a superstar, his film Dulhe Raja turned out to be a massive hit. So, producer Harmesh Malhotra decided to sign the actor for his next venture, Akhiyon Se Goli Maare. At the time, Govinda was at the peak of his career and blinded by his success. For the new film, the producer arranged a huge set in Shimla to shoot on a big scale.

So the entire unit was scheduled to travel to Shimla as the shooting was set up there. But Govinda didn’t turn up, and everyone waited for him for 15 to 18 days. Producer Mehmood Ali recalled the incident on the podcast Unfiltered with Ajaz Khan and revealed that, despite his promises, Govinda didn’t show up even after saying he would come that day or the next.

So, the makers decided to shoot in Mumbai, and the set was wrapped. While returning, a flood destroyed everything, but Harmesh still managed to arrange another set. Yet again, Govinda didn’t come for the shoot, causing massive delays. The film too turned out to be a flop, and Harmesh incurred huge losses.

The financial constraints were too much for Harmesh to handle, and Govinda didn’t offer any help. In deep shock, Harmesh suffered a heart attack and passed away. Harmesh’s family blamed Govinda for the producer’s death.

According to multiple reports and producer Mehmood Ali, Harmesh’s wife, Manju Malhotra, cursed Govinda and vowed to destroy him. The reports stated that Manju would go to temples, mosques, and gurudwaras every day to pray for Govinda’s ruin.

It is also reported that, before his death, Harmesh said Govinda would end up as a nobody. These claims are unverified and come from online rumours. There is no evidence of the curse or the fact that it had anything to do with the actor’s professional or personal life.

Did you know Govinda rejected the film Biwi No. 1 because he didn’t want to work with Sushmita Sen? While Govinda was rising, the actor was offered the iconic film Biwi No. 1 in 1999, directed by ace filmmaker David Dhawan. He reportedly wrote the film for Govinda, but the actor turned it down.

According to multiple reports, Govinda rejected the film because he did not want to work with Sushmita. However, this mistake proved fatal to Govinda’s career. The role initially written for Govinda went to Salman Khan. After the release, the film became a superhit, and Salman Khan got all the limelight. On the other hand, Govinda’s career witnessed a downfall. Almost all his films turned out to be disasters, and his career started fading. Soon, Govinda’s films stopped working.
