While Goldie has been divorced twice, Kurt Russell has been divorced once. It is worth noting that Goldie and Kurt are considered one of the most enduring couples of Hollywood. The duo has been winning hearts with their charming presence on and off screen since the 1980s. In a 2023 interview with CNN, Goldie explained that their joint history with divorce and desire to protect their children was part of the reason they originally avoided tying the knot. Elaborating on the same, Goldie said:
"Because we had been married. And because when it doesn't work out, it ends up to be a big business. Somebody has to own something. It's always ugly. Somebody has to actually take a look and say how many, how many divorces are fun? How many divorces actually don't cost money? How many divorces make you even hate the person more than you did before? How many divorces have hurt children?"
Back in a 2020 interview with PEOPLE, Goldie mentioned that she and Kurt never felt the urge to get married, but they made sure to stick together through thick and thin. Goldie added that the main funda of a relationship is a strong willingness to stick together. Goldie was quoted as saying:
"You've just got to want to be together. I don't think there's any other way than to do it. It's not about the marriage. It's about the people and the relationship, and the will to stay together. And that's a big one because if you want it, you can have it. You've got to give things up, but the joy and the excitement of being together and touching the toes of somebody at night is really a nice feeling."
Kurt and Goldie first met on the sets of Disney's 1968 live-action movie musical, The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. At the time, Goldie was 21, and Kurt was 16. However, love didn’t blossom at that time. Back then, the couple was determined not to date other actors. Love blossomed between the two after fifteen years.
The couple began dating in 1983. On their first date, the two danced at the Playboy Club. Later, they developed feelings for each other. After the date, the duo grew closer. While Goldie found Kurt handsome, things turned serious when she saw him getting along well with her children, Oliver and Kate Hudson. For those unaware, before finding love with Kurt, Goldie was married to Bill Hudson and welcomed two children, Oliver and Kate.
After three years of dating, the couple welcomed their first child together, a son, Wyatt Russell. However, the couple formed a blended family with Goldie’s children, Oliver and Kate; Kurt's son, Boston, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Season Hubley; and their very own son, Wyatt. In a 2017 interview with PEOPLE, Goldie got candid about the secret behind the longstanding romance with Kurt. In her words:
"Love, gratitude, compassion, because sometimes every man or every woman will drive their partner crazy. Family. Fun. Laughs. Sex. If you don't nurture that, and remember, you're done."
