Anthony Geary, the American actor widely known for his role in the TV soap opera, General Hospital, passed away on December 14, 2025. With his role of 'Luke Spencer' in the TV series, General Hospital, Anthony became a household name. He won eight Daytime Emmy Awards for this role. His death at the age of 78 was shocking for both his family and friends. Anthony is survived by his husband, Claudio Gama.
Speaking to TV Insider, Anthony Geary’s husband, Claudio Gama, expressed his grief over his death. He shared that it was a shock for him and their families and friends. He recalled the time they had spent together and mentioned that for more than 30 years, Anthony 'Tony' Geary had been his friend, companion and husband. He was quoted as saying:
"It was a shock for me and our families, and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband."
The official cause of death of the General Hospital fame is yet to be revealed. According to multiple reports, Anthony Geary died due to complications surrounding a scheduled surgery procedure that he underwent just three days before his death. Earlier, in 2014, Anthony underwent a back surgery for which he later left the popular show, General Hospital. For the uninitiated, his final episode of General Hospital aired on July 27, 2015. In a 2015 interview with TVLine, Anthony highlighted that he doesn’t want to die on the set of General Hospital and thus wants to retire from the show.
A few weeks before his death, Anthony’s husband, Claudio, shared a video featuring the General Hospital fame on social media. In the clip, Anthony was watching his former co-star, Genie Francis, who appeared on Maurice Benard’s State of Mind podcast. In the caption, Claudio mentioned that Anthony was very happy to see the duo and shared that he missed them. The caption shared by Claudio can be read as :
"It really made Tony very happy. He told me, 'Those are two lovely and talented people, great friends, and I miss them.'"
On February 10, 2025, Claudio took to his Instagram handle and shared a cutesy video with their cat, little Max. Alongside the video, Claudio penned a heartfelt note sharing a glimpse of his love story with General Hospital fame, Anthony Geary. He shared that 30 years ago, in February, they met. He then mentioned that six years ago, in February, they got married and thus they have a dual anniversary to celebrate. The note can be read as:
"Greetings and happy week to all from Amsterdam winter days it’s cold but dry this week is our anniversary week Tony and I met 30 years ago in February and got married 6 years ago also on February two anniversary’s to celebrate I have to find a good gift and make some special food maybe bake another cake that will make Tony from me Tony and Max stay safe and warm."
Anthony was born May 29, 1947, in Coalville, UT. His father ran a construction company, and his mother was a homemaker. Anthony grew up alongside his three sisters, Dana, DeAnn, and Jana. Since his childhood, Anthony’s mother hoped that her son might pursue a career in teaching; however, later his immense passion for acting made him choose it as a career. His role in the TV soap opera, General Hospital, gave him immense fame.
