Gayle King recently talked about being cheated on by her ex-husband, William Bumpus, decades ago. He now again apologised to her publicly.
Famous journalist, Gayle King recently appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast and opened up about her broken marriage to her ex-husband, William Bumpus. For the unversed, Gayle got married to William Bumpus in 1982, and they welcomed two children. It was in 1993, when the couple was divorced, and the reason was his cheating on her.
William Bumpus cheated on Gayle with one of her close friends, and she found them only in towels after returning from the airport before than the fixed time. Undoubtedly, it was extremely painful for Gayle, and she recently said that she kept up with her silence for the sake of their two children. Amid this, William Bumpus extended a public apology to his ex-wife, Gayle.
In an interview with TMZ, William Bumpus extended his apology to his wife, their kids, their spouses, and their grandchildren. William took accountability for his actions and mentioned that he owned the mistakes that he made decades ago. He further added that he feels that Gayle has every right to share what she had been through, and it changed the trajectory of their marriage nearly forty years ago.
William Bumpus added that he respects her right to share her story. In the same interview, William Bumpus stated that he is grateful that Gayle was there in his life, and gave him the two biggest gifts of his life, along with helping him to get his Yale Law Degree. He further extended his gratitude to Gayle for giving him a chance to co-parent their kids. In William Bumpus' words:
"She recently sent warm wishes to Poet, my teenage daughter, on her 16th birthday, which meant a great deal to us both. As a private person by nature, I will admit that during our marriage I did not fully appreciate Gayle’s public life — I wanted ours to be more private, and that was something I wrestled with, and no reflection on her true talent and abilities. I am proud to have had a front-row seat to Gayle’s remarkable success, and I remain a genuine admirer and fan."
William Bumpus, in the same interview, revealed that through all these decades, his and Gayle's bonding has just deepened, while adding that they are at a good place, so much so that she wished his daughter, Poet, on her birthday recently. He also added that as he is a private person, he never actually could appriciate Gayle's professional life, and he wanted their lives to be a more private one, which was something he struggled with.
William further extended his gratitude for the fact that he was in the front row, to witness her getting more successful in life. In the same interview, William Bumpus shared that he has been focused on the journey of being the best version, and he would continue to do the same while being a single dad to her daughter, and being committed to his clients. He could be quoted as saying:
"I continue to work at being the best version of myself, grounded by the friendship, encouragement, and support of Gayle over the years, by the love of our grown children and our grandchildren, and by the daily privilege of raising Poet as a single dad. That is where my focus remains — on my family, on my clients, and on the work ahead."
For the unversed, Gayle King, in the recent podcast, revealed how she caught her husband red-handed while he was almost intimate with one of her close friends. She immediately told her friend's husband about the affair, but kept up with her silence, for the sake of his two kids. She further mentioned that she didn't like the kind of person she had become during that time while being with him, and nobody actually wants to live like that.
