Doug Martin's Death, Former NFL RB Jumped From Second Floor Of Rehab In A Psychotic Episode

Amid Doug Martin's untimely death, recent reports stated that the former NFL star once jumped out of his rehab during one of his psychotic episodes.

The former NFL star, Doug Martin, died tragically on October 18, 2025. Popularly known as ‘Muscle Hamster' by his fans, Martin was admired for his strength and agility. His tragic death at the mere age of 36 came as a shock to the NFL community. Though the exact cause of Martin’s death is still not confirmed but many disturbing details have been surfacing in the media.

Doug Martin jumped out of the rehab centre in a suspected psychotic episode

The official cause of Doug Martin’s death has yet to be disclosed, with further investigation and toxicology results. However, his family shared that he had been struggling with severe mental health issues in the weeks leading up to his death. As per a report in the Chronicle, Martin checked into Tranquility Rehab Center in Castro Valley in August and tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamines.

After several days in the rehab, Martin tried to leave the premises without permission multiple times. During his stay, he allegedly experienced a psychotic episode, jumped from a second-story window, and was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. One of the supervisors of the rehab stated that he jumped from his window and punched the side of the rehab facility. When police arrived, they tried to search Martin, after which he reportedly became agitated. Three bags of cocaine and a 12-inch chef’s knife were found from Martin's custody.

Doug Martin’s tragic and untimely death

As per Martin’s family, he left his home in a distressed state and entered a neighbor’s residence. According to the Oakland Police Department, officers responding to reports of a break-in encountered Martin early on October 18. A brief altercation happened between Martin and the officers in an attempt to detain him.

After being taken into custody, Martin became unresponsive and was pronounced dead. However, the cause of death remains unconfirmed. His family later released a statement to the Tampa Bay Times confirming the heartbreaking news. They have sought privacy during this difficult time.

Athletes First CEO Brian Murphy released a statement on behalf of the Martin family and revealed that the former All-Pro running back had been battling mental illness and recently sought treatment. His statement could be read as:

“Privately, Doug battled mental health challenges that profoundly impacted his personal and professional life. Ultimately, mental illness proved to be the one opponent from which Doug could not run.”
