Ahead of Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding to Bettina Anderson, President Donald Trump has hinted that he may not attend the event.
Donald Trump's son, Donald "Don" Jr., 48, is soon set to tie the knot with his fiancée, Bettina Anderson, years after his divorce from Vanessa Trump. With speculations already stirring a buzz about who may or may not attend the private ceremony this weekend, the U.S. President may already be facing criticism over whether he will attend his son’s wedding. Amid growing discussions, it looks like Representative Ilhan Omar has publicly questioned Trump's parenting.
Don Jr. is reportedly set to marry Bettina Anderson in a private ceremony in the Bahamas during Memorial Day weekend (May 23 to 25, 2026). With a limited number of guests on his son's big day, the President is facing an unexpected family dilemma, as, according to him, there is no winning either way.
Donald Trump is currently focused on brokering an important deal to end the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran, which has reportedly affected his poll numbers and triggered voter frustration ahead of the November midterm elections. Speaking from the Oval Office recently, Trump admitted he may skip Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding. He said:
"He'd like me to go. It’s going to be just a small little private affair, and I'm going to try and make it... I said, 'This is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things.’"
Trump went on to say he was also aware of how heavily the media would scrutinize his decision during a tense political moment. The dilemma has left him at a crossroads, where any decision may work against his favour, as the media would allegedly attack him either way. The president jokingly quipped:
"That's one I can't win on. If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed by the fake news, of course."
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, shortly after Trump's words made it to the media, TMZ caught hold of Rep. Ilhan Omar, the Congresswoman from Minnesota, as she was leaving Capitol Hill. She did not hold back when asked about Trump possibly missing the wedding. Omar reportedly said that a "good parent" would make time for their child’s wedding no matter what else was happening politically. She laughingly referred to Trump as the "worst parent in the world."
She also pointed out that Trump has still found time recently for golf outings and White House renovation projects despite the ongoing Iran conflict. Her comments instantly added a political layer to what was already becoming a heavily discussed family event online.
According to reports, the couple had originally planned the idea of hosting their wedding at the White House, but they eventually opted for a smaller and more private ceremony in the Bahamas, amid growing geopolitical tensions. This wedding marks Donald Trump Jr.'s second marriage following his 2018 divorce from Vanessa Trump, with whom he shares five children, Kai, Donald III, Tristan, Spencer, and Chloe.
Despite their divorce, Vanessa Trump and Donald Trump Jr. appear to maintain a cordial co-parenting relationship for the sake of their five children. Sources close to the family later claimed that Donald Trump Jr. was supportive of his ex-wife's relationship with golf legend Tiger Woods, while Donald Trump himself publicly gave the couple his blessing. However, whether or not Vesessa will be attending the wedding remains a matter of doubt, given her recent breast cancer diagnosis.
Meanwhile, Bettina Anderson has increasingly become part of the Trump family’s inner social circle over the past year, attending multiple Mar-a-Lago events and political appearances alongside Don Jr.
