U.S. President Donald Trump's love story is no less than an exciting tale as his lady love rejected him during their first meeting. Despite a bumpy start, they are happily married.
For the world, Donald Trump is the most influential person, but just like many others, his journey wooing his lady love wasn't an easy one. Donald Trump's first meeting with his wife, Melania Trump, was full of fireworks and music. The then-businessman was head-over-heels in love with Melania (then Knauss), but she rejected him as he was with another woman.
Donald and Melania met by chance at a party in New York in 1998. However, Melania had no interest in being there as she was relaxing at her New York home after a trip from Paris. However, Donald Trump had left a significant impression on Melania. She rejected the idea of being with him as he was with someone else. On the other hand, Donald Trump was impressed with Melania's beauty.
In her memoir, Melania, she talked about their first meeting. Recalling the moment, she wrote how she noticed a man with an attractive blonde woman approaching her. She revealed how the man's eyes were full of curiosity and interest, and he sat next to her and started conversing with her. From her time in New York to her Slovenian home and her travel plans, Trump wanted to know all. An excerpt from the memoir can be read as:
"His eyes filled with curiosity and interest, and, seizing the opportunity, he took the seat next to mine and started a conversation. He asked me about my time in New York, my Slovenian home, and my world travels. It was a moment of connection, a brief encounter that left a lasting impression. It was nice to make a new acquaintance."
Further, in the memoir, Melania revealed that she dismissed the idea of being with him as he was with a beautiful date. But Donald Trump's charm captivated her, and the way he made her feel seemed like she was the centre of his world. Recalling more about their time together, she wrote:
"From the moment our conversation began, I was captivated by his charm and easygoing nature. There was so much bustling activity around us, but his intent focus on our interaction made me feel like the center of his world. It was a refreshing departure from the usual superficial small talk, and I found myself drawn to his magnetic energy."
Despite the initial hiccup, Trump left a lasting impression on Melania. He quickly won her over, and they started dating. After a few years of courtship, the two were attending their first Met Gala together. So, Trump was planning the most beautiful proposal with a USD 1.5 million Graff engagement ring, which he purchased at a 50 per cent discount.
The ring was an emerald-cut diamond set in platinum, with tapered baguette-cut diamond stones on the sides. Melania was bowled by the proposal. On the other hand, the partygoers were left unaffected as they were busy fixing their trains and headpieces, as the theme of the party was Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th Century. Melania called the proposal a great surprise and stated that they are happy together.
It was in January 2005, when Donald Trump and Melania decided to get married at Palm Beach, Florida's picturesque Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church. The celebration was attended by former President Bill Clinton, Barbara Walters, Regis Philbin and Rudy Giuliani. Many more famous guests attended the duo's wedding. The couple embraced parenthood in the same year with the arrival of their son.
