Country legend Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80. Brian Seaver, a close family member of the singer-songwriter, announced her death on August 25, 2026. He took to Dolly Parton's Instagram account to share that she succumbed to her ongoing health issues after fighting against them for quite some time. Notably, the late star was involved in philanthropy even in the months leading up to her death.

Dolly's death came as a shock to her fans, who were praying for her to get well soon. After the tragic news surfaced, they revisited her last interview, in which she shared her health update, her final wish and also remembered her late husband, Carl Dean.

Dolly Parton's final words to the public were delivered in her last interview, which took place just days before her demise. On August 21, 2026, the singer and actress shared an update on her health with PEOPLE, during which she acknowledged that her physical condition declined after the passing of her beloved husband, Carl Dean. She recalled the time when her husband was ill, and to look after him, she ignored her own health.

Dolly mentioned having "female issues" for several months and also struggling with her weight. The country star admitted that she should have paid more attention to her health and revealed that she had been having "hard times" due to her ailments. Remembering her late husband and opening up about her own health issues, she stated:

"As I've shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn't pay attention to when I was watching over Carl. You know, this isn't the first time I've had to manage something like this. Back in the early '80s, I was down for several months with female issues, and I was struggling with my weight at the time too, so it's not like I haven't been through hard times with my health."

In the same interview, Dolly Parton mentioned being on the road to recovery and working on "healing." She stated that concerns about her health were magnified manifold by social media, which was not the case a few decades ago. She jokingly said that she transitioned from being "queen of the tabloids" to "queen of social media" as she continued to make headlines even with the change of eras. Dolly then shared her final wish to work more and achieve greater things and stated:

"Even though I'm still healin', I'm still workin'! You know me, as I've often said, I've dreamed myself into a corner and I still have so many things I want to achieve, so I'm gonna keep on working as long as I can to see everything come to life."
