Michael Jackson loved his kids dearly, but you know, he wasn't a biological father to any of his children.
Michael Jackson, hailed as the King of Pop, was a global sensation. Despite having passed away 17 years ago, Michael is still an icon and an emotion, even to kids of this generation. Over a four-decade career, Michael’s musical achievements broke American racial barriers. He soon turned into a dominant figure worldwide.
While Michael’s professional life touched the sky, his personal life was marred by controversies. Be it his broken marriages to Lisa Marie Presley or Debbie Rowe, sexual assault charges, cosmetic procedures or even the paternity of his children, MJ’s life was marked with controversies. But the one question which his fans always wanted to know was whether he had any biological kids with Debbie Rowe.
Before his death in 2009, Michael Jackson welcomed three children — Prince, Paris and Bigi. The King of Pop welcomed his first son, Prince in 1997 with his second wife, Debbie Rowe. The couple then welcomed their second child, a daughter named Paris in 1998. Michael and Debbie split in 1999. In 2002, Michael welcomed his younger son, Prince Michael Jackson II, also known as Blanket, via surrogacy. In 2015, Blanket changed his name legally to Bigi.
For the unversed, Michael Jackson was first married to Lisa Marie Presley. The two were together for three years. Michael desperately wanted a child, but Lisa wasn't sure about the same. After three years, Lisa and Michael called it quits. He then had an affair with Debbie Rowe, who was an assistant to his dermatologist, Arnold Klein.
Michael and Debbie were good friends before falling in love. After his divorce from Lisa Marie Presley, Michael was worried about embracing fatherhood. He was desperate for kids, and it was at that time that Debbie offered to carry his future kids. Though legally, Michael and Debbie were Prince and Paris’s parents, but not biologically.
After Michael’s kids were born, it was reported that he was not the biological father of Prince and Paris. Reports stated that the children were conceived via in vitro fertilisation (IVF) using a sperm donor and a surrogate rather than Michael’s or Debbie’s own biological material. It is noted that Debbie was just a surrogate - none of her eggs was used. That would technically mean she wasn't the biological mother either.
In an interview with an Irish publication, Debbie Rowe shared that Paris and Prince were not Michael’s biological kids. She stated that both the children were conceived using semen from a sperm bank. This means Rowe was just a paid surrogate for Michael, who gave birth to Prince and Paris. The report also states that the surrogate for Jackson's third child, Prince Michael II, didn't even know who the receiving parent was. Revealing that Michael was aware about the truth, Debbie shared:
“Michael knows the truth — that he is not the natural father of Prince Michael Jr. and Paris. He has to come clean.”
According to Debbie, her union with Michael was never romantic, and she called it a specific arrangement centred on his single goal of becoming a father. She understood from the beginning that she wasn’t his romantic partner but someone who was paid to carry his children. She has explained that she was artificially inseminated as she never had sex with Michael or lived with him. Calling herself a paid ‘vessel’, Debbie told NOTW:
“I offered him my womb – it was a gift. It was something I did to keep him happy. I was just the vessel. It wasn’t Michael’s sperm. I got paid for it, and I’ve moved on. I know I will never see my children again.”
After approximately three years of marriage, Debbie and Michael got divorced. According to reports, Debbie received USD 8 million as a settlement after her divorce from the King of Pop. As part of their agreement, Jackson retained full custody of the children, Prince and Prais. It was a decision aligned with the original intention behind their partnership.
