Sharing a picture with Ranbir, Neetu wrote, “Happy happy to you, Rana. You are mine, and I feel blessed.” The three words, ‘You are mine', caught people’s attention, and soon the “boy mom” debate started.
Amid the online chatter about Ranbir and Neetu’s bond, an old video of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone resurfaced. During the promotions of Tamasha, Ranbir and Deepika were seen answering their fan’s queries. The host then asked Ranbir a question from a fan about the most important person in his life.
In response, the actor said his parents, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, were the most important to him. But while Ranbir was answering the question, Deepika took a subtle jibe at him and said, ‘Mommy’. On the other hand, Ranbir didn’t react to Deepika’s answer and kept a straight face.
Time and again, people have called Ranbir Kapoor a mumma’s boy. However, when Neetu Kapoor’s birthday post for Ranbir with the words, ‘you are mine’ surfaced, netizens thought that the veteran actress was trying to make a point here. A social media user pointed to Ranbir’s parents’ complicated marriage and wrote that a mother’s difficult relationship with her husband should not mean that a child ends up carrying the emotional responsibilities of that relationship.
Another social media user questioned Alia Bhatt's role in Ranbir’s life. One user shared a picture of a family pooja, where Alia sat behind Ranbir while Neetu Kapoor sat next to him. They wrote:
“I acknowledge that his mom suffered in an abusive relationship with an alcoholic and cheating husband, but this is too much. Puja rituals are usually done by couples, whereas Alia is sitting like an extra here. Don’t come for me in the comments, I didn’t make the rules. You worship Shiv Parvati together, don’t you?"
Well, in Ranbir Kapoor’s case, reports say his mom had a say in his relationships. After Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone's breakup, people started speculating about the possible reason behind it. While some reports said Ranbir's closeness with Katrina Kaif caused the split, rumour mills also claimed Neetu Kapoor didn’t like Deepika.
However, in 2013, during his appearance on Rajat Sharma’s TV show, Aap Ki Adalat, Ranbir clarified the rumours that his mother was the reason behind his breakup with his ex-girlfriend, Deepika Padukone.
After his breakup with Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor dated Katrina Kaif. Reports also said Neetu Kapoor didn’t approve of Katrina. During an interview, journalist Karan Thapar asked Katrina some personal questions, including about her bond with Neetu Kapoor. For the unversed, Neetu Kapoor once cropped Katrina out of a family picture.
During the interview, Karan Thapar mentioned Neetu Kapoor airbrushing Katrina out of a photo and asked the actress if that hurt her. In her savage self, she responded:
“I’m not on Instagram or Twitter, so I can’t say I really know what you are talking about in that case."
