Earlier, this year, in July 2026, Darshan’s estranged wife Apara Mehta claimed that he called her the 'ugliest woman'. In a recent interview, the veteran actor reacted to Apara’s claim. For the unversed, Apara and Darshan have been living separately for over two decades. They married twice before calling it quits in 2003.
Earlier, in a July 2026 interview, veteran actress Apara Mehta claimed that her estranged husband, Darshan Jariwala, before separating from her, called her 'ugliest woman' and shared that he had "fallen out of love." Denying the claim, in a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Darshan mentioned that over the years, Apara’s memories might have changed. The veteran actor alleged that he can never say to a woman that she is ugly. However, he is completely okay with Apara playing the victim card. He said:
"There’s a neurological phenomenon that, with time, your memory of an event keeps changing. I can say very generously that it’s a case of false memory. The way it’s been narrated, nothing like that happened. I’m not that kind of a guy who would even tell, let’s say, a plain-looking woman that she’s ugly. It would be a very irrelevant remark to make. If I know myself well, I’d talk about how the person is inside, and not really from outside."
Darshan confessed that he has moved on and is very happy where he is right now. He has been living with interior designer and architect Anahita Italia since 2010. Darshan shared that he doesn't understand why Apara waited so many years to speak about these matters. He mentioned that people close to him know the full story and that his truth has no versions. Darshan then explained that he and Apara separated as they grew differently over the years. Explaining it further, Darshan said:
"Two people grow to be different. If you plant two saplings together, they’ll grow differently. Her priorities are different; mine were different. My circumstances changed because I was involved in an unsuccessful business venture. Even our thinking about how we want to deal with our careers was different. So, we tried to give the best childhood to our daughter. That’s where we were very clear. A relationship goes through changes sometimes."
In the same interview, Darshan explained why he and Apara never got divorced. The veteran actor revealed that he did file for divorce from Apara, but the judge rejected the application. It was all because of Apara, who didn’t give consent. Darshan alleged that Apara had agreed to the divorce but changed her mind before the judge at the last minute. He called her a "nice, wronged victim."
Recalling the time when he left the home, Darshan shared that he had given his house in Santacruz West to his estranged wife, Apara and their daughter. Since he didn’t have another house or even the money to pay rent, the veteran actor lived at his friends’ place for some time before he could afford to rent out a small house.
Further, in the interview, Darshan revealed they eloped because Apara was scared her parents would turn down their marriage because of caste issues. The ex-pair met during rehearsals for a Gujarati play. Eventually, the duo developed a friendship. At the time, he was 20-21.
