"I think it's kind of good and bad. Good that she is fairly well with it, but she's also somewhat foggy."

Ferrell said that it is still unclear how much Christa Pike will recover. He believes her condition will probably continue to improve, but there is also a possibility that some of the damage she suffered due to the botched execution could be permanent. As of now, the doctors in charge of Pike do not know whether she will have any lasting problems.

Further, in the interview, Stephen Ferrell stated that Pike should receive psychological or mental health support because of what she has gone through. After the failed execution, in an interview with CNN, Ferrell described Pike’s botched execution as a torturous attempt. He also called for Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to commute Christa’s sentence. During a court hearing on October 7, 2026, the state's attorney general said he did not know whether the state would reschedule Pike's execution.

As of now, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has ordered a pause on all executions in the state for the rest of 2026, and has said he wants answers about what went wrong during Pike’s execution. The court hearing on October 7, 2026, was about making sure that all evidence from Christa Pike’s first execution attempt is kept safely in case it is needed for the legal case later.

The judge, I’Ashea Myles, ordered officials to preserve everything that was present in the execution room, including the IV lines, syringes, and even discarded items such as packaging, instruction papers, and labels. The judge also ordered that records about Pike’s mental and psychological condition before, during, and after the September 30, 2026 execution attempt should be kept. She further advised the state to be extremely careful with all potentially important information, making sure that no evidence is accidentally lost, misplaced, or deleted.
