Famous child actor, Tylor Chase's video from the streets of California made rounds on social media. Officials then came forward to confirm whether they had offered him help and what had happened.
Tylor Chase grabbed the attention with his iconic role as a child actor in Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, and in the following years, he starred in several projects before going MIA from the industry. In a 2015 video, he talked about suffering from BPD (bipolar disorder), and eventually, he was missing from the limelight.
It most recently happened that several clips of him surfaced on social media, wherein he was seen in tattered clothes, while being on the streets of California. Along with the clips being viral, people started questioning the authorities about why they didn't take the necessary steps to help Tylor. Well, the authorities now have a reply to the same.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez shared details about their encounter with Tylor Chase. Larry said that they have been witnessing Tylor in this state for several years now, and it's not limited to Riverside across California. Larry further mentioned that with the clips going viral, it's clear that Chase has been suffering from mental illness and substance abuse, but the main issue is that the services that they provide are mainly built on personal choices, and thus, one should accept it voluntarily. Larry mentioned:
"What we’re seeing play out with Tylor is, unfortunately, something we see every day, not just in Riverside, but across California. From the videos circulating online, it’s clear he is struggling with substance abuse and untreated mental illness. The challenge is that our current mental health system is largely built around personal choice. Even when someone is clearly in crisis, they must voluntarily accept services unless very specific legal thresholds are met.”
In the same interview, Larry shared that it had been a long time since the recent attention that they had found Tylor Chase in this state, and there had been multiple times that they wanted to help him, but couldn't. Larry said that the main reason they couldn't help him was that no matter how close he comes to accepting the service, he flips. Stating that he has declined all the services, Larry said:
"Long before the recent public attention, and continuing since then, outreach teams have been in frequent contact with Tylor and have repeatedly offered services. He has come very close to accepting help, but ultimately that final step must be made by the individual, and at this point he has declined those services."
There had been several suggestions that law enforcement should take Tylor Chase into custody, but as per Gonzalez, using drugs is considered 'non-violent' in California, and even if he is taken into custody, he won't be placed behind bars for too long, and he will be released without any access to treatment, which will end up leaving him, right where he actually started. As per the police, it's the same case with mental health treatment as well, where voluntary commitment is needed.
Tylor Chase was seen in Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide and also appeared in Everybody Hates Chris, where he played an unnamed character. In 2007, he made his movie debut with Good Time Max, and his next and last film was L.A Noire. Following this, in 2015, one of his clips went viral, wherein he was seen talking about his mental health struggles.
After being MIA for a while, in 2025, his name suddenly started hitting the headlines after an influencer shared a video of him from the streets of California, and he was seen in an unrecognizable state, raising concerns among people. Later, a GoFundMe page was created for him, but it was shut down, as his mother revealed he didn't need money but medical help.
