Months after Travis Kelce confirmed his engagement and wedding plans with Taylor Swift, his teammate, George Karlaftis, who plays as a defensive end for the Chiefs finally tied the knot with his high school sweetheart, Kaia Harris. For the unversed, George was selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft and since then, he has helped his team win back-to-back Super Bowls.
Talking about his now wife, Kaia Harris, reportedly she is a discus throw competitor. Apart from this, she started her career as a marketing professional and over the years, she has worked in multiple companies. Kaia Harris, who is best-known now as the wife of NFL player, George Karlaftis, has been an athlete herself. According to a report by Sportskeeda, she is originally from West Lafayette, Indiana and attended the West Lafayette Junior-Senior High School. Kaia was a discus throw and hammer throw player. During her college, she became one of the top players. Over the years, she has also won multiple championships.
Talking about her professional life, Kaia Harris graduated with a marketing bachelor's degree from Purdue University and later began his career as a marketing intern. According to her LinkedIn profile, she worked at OptoSigma in 2019. Later, in 2021, she joined Caterpillar Inc. However, the same year, she again joined OptoSigma as a marketing intern.
Apart from this, in 2022, she enrolled in the University of Missouri for a doctorate in law. Reportedly, she got her degree in 2025. During her time at the University, Kaia Harris joined a law firm, Husch Blackwell as an associate. If reports are to be believed, Kaia has worked in multiple firms in Missouri. Since both were athletes, the two connected through the same. Soon, the two became friends and eventually fell in love.
It is worth mentioning that over the years, the two have supported each other during their toughest phase. After a few years of dating, George took to his IG handle in 2021 to confirm his relationship. He shared a series of photos with Kaia and in the caption, he penned:
"Can’t believe it’s already been 5 years @kaia.harris. Seems like it was just yesterday when I met you at Lambert…wow! I love you so much and can’t wait to see what the future holds for us."
In 2019, Kaia Harris suffered a tragic car accident, which almost ended her athletic career. Reportedly, Kaia suffered major injuries on her pelvis and internal organs. For the same, she also underwent multiple surgeries and was unable to walk for nearly two months. During this tough phase, it was her love, George Karlaftis, who stood beside her and helped her recover.
George once shared, "It was crazy seeing the person you love in that kind of state." It is worth noting that even though the doctors were doubtful about Kaia's career, she refused to give up and after nearly 2 years, she made a powerful comeback. She has also received the Wilma Rudolph Student-Athletic Achievement Award. In 2024, she competed at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in discus throw.
According to a report by People Magazine, George Karlaftis tied the knot with Kaia Harris on May 9, 2026. The wedding ceremony was held in Greece and was attended by around 220 guests. Some reports claim that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce also attended the intimate ceremony. For the unversed, George and Kaia got engaged in 2025.
As per People, the Kansas City Chiefs' player proposed to his ladylove when they were on their bed, watching TV together. Talking about their wedding outfits, Kaia looked like a princess in a custom-made lace wedding gown. On the other hand, George wore a classic black tuxedo. Talking about his wedding, George told People Magazine:
"I think my favorite part was the ceremony because I got really emotional, more than I expected to. I didn't expect to cry as much as I did during the ceremony. I was borderline bawling when I saw Kaia and her dad walk down the aisle. I also really enjoyed when Kaia and I were doing the cake cutting, the first dance, [and] walking into the reception to 'Freed From Desire'. The food was great, too."
