Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleCharlize Theron has been making headlines for some time now. The actress, who is in her 50s, has been admired by many for her timeless elegance. However, her thin appearance at the Paris premiere of The Odyssey has sparked major health concerns. While many complimented her couture, some called her 'skeletal' and wondered whether she is battling an underlying health issue. Amid this, Charlize’s before-and-after pictures surfaced.
Charlize Theron is widely known for dramatically transforming herself for movie roles. She gained 30 pounds to play a murderer, 'Aileen Wuornos', in the 2003 film, Monster. She earned her first Oscar for her performance in Monster. Later, for the 2018 film, Tully, Charlize again transformed herself by gaining almost 50 pounds for her role. Comparing the challenges of losing and gaining weight in her 40s and 20s, Charlize, in a 2018 interview with People, admitted that she dealt with depression. In her words:
"My body flipped me off quite a bit. It’s just way different when you’re older. Also this time around I dealt with depression for the first time in my life. I just didn’t eat very healthy, and a lot of the processed sugars and things just really put me into a terrible depression, and I’d never dealt with anything like that in my life. It totally took me off guard."
Further in the interview, Charlize shared that it was much more difficult to recover after gaining 50 pounds for her role in Tully. She felt physically heavier, and emotionally she was quite unhappy. She was not in great health and had trouble sleeping. The filming of Tully wrapped up just before Thanksgiving, a holiday known for big meals. So instead of starting a strict diet routine immediately, Charlize decided to enjoy the holiday. However, when she tried to lose weight, she found it much harder. It took her about a year and a half to lose weight. In her words:
"I was very heavy, literally and figuratively. My soul just felt really heavy on this film, and I was just really unhealthy, and I threw my back out and couldn’t sleep and was lethargic. I wrapped the film right before Thanksgiving, and I was like, 'Great, I’m not going on a diet now; I’m going to do the holidays.' And then when January came around, it was just like I could barely walk on a treadmill. My body just didn’t respond like it did the last time I did this. It took like a year and a half for the weight to come off."
Charlize Theron once admitted that she would never transform herself and gain a lot of weight for a particular movie role. She mentioned that the reason behind backing off it was quite difficult to recover from the weight gain. Charlize shared that when she was in her 20s, she lost 30 pounds overnight, but when she was in her 40s, it took her more than one year to come back to normal. Speaking to Allure, Charlize opened up about ageing. She shared that people thought she had a facelift, but it was just that she was ageing. In her words:
"My face is changing, and I love that my face is changing and ageing. People think I had a facelift. They’re like, 'What did she do to her face? I’m just ageing! It doesn’t mean I got bad plastic surgery. This is just what happens.'"
