Catherine O'Hara passed away at the age of 71. The actress was rushed to the hospital after suffering a medical emergency. What was the cause of her death?
Hollywood is mourning the passing of Catherine O'Hara, a famous American and Canadian actress, whose career spanned over 50 years. Catherine began her career on the sketch comedy series Second City Television, which earned her an Emmy. Following this, the actress gained attention for her roles in several movies over the years, and she was one of the most loved actresses in the entertainment world. It was on Friday, i.e. on January 30, 2026, when Catherine passed away. Amid the entire industry mourning Cathrine's death, information surfaced, wherein it was revealed that the actress was rushed to the hospital before her demise.
No official confirmation or information revealed the actual reason that claimed Catherine O'Hara's life at the age of 71. TMZ, on the other hand, reported that the actress suffered an emergency at her L. A. home, before she passed away. The publication had its hands on a voice record, through which it was known that the actress was facing breathing difficulties before she was rushed to the hospital.
According to a report by TMZ, responders were first called at the actress's Brentwood home at around 5 a.m., following which, she was admitted to the hospital. Catherine was listed in serious condition, as shared by the Los Angeles Fire Department. It was following this that Catherine O'Hara passed away. Page Six also obtained a 911 audio, wherein it was revealed that the actress suffered a breathing issue. Us Weekly reported that a member of the Fire Department said the actress was taken to a hospital at 4.48 a.m. in a 'serious condition'.
Catherine O'Hara found out that she was diagnosed with situs inversus later in her life. This is a rare condition in which, according to online sources, the person develops a reversed position of their chest and stomach organs. This is caused by a genetic mutation and can be passed down to the children from their parents. In this rare condition, the organs, which are normally found from left to right, are mirrored and found from right to left.
While this is a rare condition, people diagnosed with situs inversus tend to live normal lives. Catherine O'Hara had no idea about being diagnosed with situs inversus, and it was only during a test of hers that she got to know about the same. Catherine had six siblings, and her parents also passed away by the time she got to know about the rare condition that she was diagnosed with. During her 2020 appearance on Virtual Happy Hour, Catherine revealed how doctors needed two different EKG machines for a TB test, and following this, a chest X-ray was opted for. However, it was only then that Catherine got to know about her rare diagnosis. She revealed:
"I was like, ‘What is happening?’ He calls us into his office and says ‘You’re the first one I’ve met! I’m one of seven kids and my parents were already gone and left the world by that time. Never heard anything about this."
We wish Catherine's family strength to deal with this tough time!
