Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleComedian Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, has made headlines after a report claimed that he has been hospitalized following an attempted suicide. He reportedly attempted suicide on September 17, 2026, and following this, he was rushed to a local hospital. The comedian's representative recently told TMZ that he is recovering in the hospital in Las Vegas.
With the report, Carrot Top's fans and followers were left surprised, and they have been wondering what is wrong with the comedian. Nothing about the same is known as of now, and his family has yet to give a statement on the same. Amid this, let's have a look at the mystery behind his unique stage name, Carrot Top.
Carrot Top obviously has his own comic timing to grab people's attention; however, his bright and fiery red hair also contributes to it. Several reports claimed that he received the name from his swimming coach. He was allegedly given the name due to his red hair. What started as a unique, funny moniker became his identity.
In an interview with Allison Kugel, the comedian once revealed how he ended up taking 'Carrot Top' as his stage name. When asked about the same thing back in 2022, he said that he doesn't really know why he ended up with this name. He went on to reveal that he felt the name Scott Thompson was a bit boring, and he wanted to have a cool stage name.
The comedian decided to be introduced as 'Carrot Top' before his performance one night, and since then, he has been known by that name. The comedian could be quoted as saying:
"Unfortunately, I had something to do with that. It’s a blessing and a curse. Why I did it? I don’t know. I thought the name Scott Thompson was kind of boring. Well, not kind of, it is. Being a stage performer, I always thought I should have something fun. Queen Latifah was taken, and so I thought, 'Gosh, I need something better.' I went up to the stage one night and said, 'Bring me up as Carrot Top.' They said, 'Carrot Top? Are you sure?' I said, 'Yes, I’m pretty sure.' And that was it. I was “Carrot Top” forever."
For those who don't know, Carrot Top's dad is a NASA structural engineer. Given what his father did, Carrot Top chose something very different, and his father had no idea what a stand-up comedian was. In the same interview, Carrot was asked how he told his father about his career choice, as back then, this profession was not as familiar as it is today.
The comedian mentioned that he was not that awkward in conversation and simply told his dad what he intended to do with his career. Carrot Top had two odd jobs back then, delivering bread and working as a courier service guy, and he was earning some money from them. When his father asked about it, he revealed that he was in a stand-up comedy show.
The comedian's father was left surprised and asked more about him, adding that his son was not even funny. Speaking about how his dad reacted after watching one of his shows, Carrot Top said:
"He was like, 'Wait, stop. Comedy? Stand-up comedy? What are you doing? Are you setting up a comedy show?' I said, 'No, I’m in the show. I’m actually the comic.' He said, 'But you’re not funny.' And I said, 'I know. It’s the weirdest thing.' My dad eventually came and saw what I did, and he had no idea. He said, 'What part of you did I miss?' I’m thinking, 'A big chunk dad. A big chunk.'”
Apart from being a comedian, Carrot Top appeared in projects like Larry the Cable Guy's Christmas Spectacular and Scrubs, and in movies such as Chairman of the Board. Since 2005, he has been a longtime headliner at Luxor, where he has the longest-running residency in Vegas. Carrot hosted Cartoon Network's AM Mayhem and also starred as a spokesperson in 1-800-CALL-ATT commercials.
