Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, a 21-year-old Brazilian fitness enthusiast, died after falling due to the crew's mistake as they forgot to attach the rope during the high-rope jump.
A Brazilian woman named, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas' life ended on the most tragic note at the tender age of 21. Maria was known for documenting her love for adventure sports and gym videos. June 13, 2026, which Maria thought was one of her most adventurous days, turned out to be the last one, as she died after the crew forgot to attach the safety gear during a high-rope jump.
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas was thrown from the Ponte Do Esqueleto, also known as the Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, São Paulo. The 21-year-old decided to bungee jump, according to Brazilian outlets. However, the crew members, who were carrying her, forgot to attach the safety rope, which was much-needed. As per local reports, Maria's fiance was present when the horrific incident unfolded. He is still unwell after learning about her death and requires immediate medical attention. The couple's life turned upside down as one died and the other got the biggest shock of his life.
After the shocking incident, videos of the horrific incident are going viral. In the clip, Maria was carried by staff members towards the edge of the bridge. She wore a helmet and a jacket. But as she fell down the cliff, a witness filming the video pointed out how the crew forgot to attach the rope, which was left behind on the ground and shouted:
"Guys, the rope!"
Maria shared glimpses of her before her fatal death on Instagram. She shared a post at 7:30 a.m. on June 13, 2026, which featured a photo from the location. Along with it, she revealed who the crazy person was who let her jump off a bridge. It soon became her final post. Her post can be read as:
"Who was the crazy person that let me jump off a bridge?"
After the horrific incident, it was revealed that six people were taken into custody while three were still detained. A representative for the Sao Paulo government, delegate Andrea Dantas Levy, stated that the team was not authorised to be there, and they ended up organising the event. He accepted that this happened due to the failure to verify and supervise the placement of the rope on the victim before the jump. So far, three men aged 27, 32, and 42 were arrested at the scene and have been charged with homicide with implied malice. He said:
"It was a team there that wasn't regulated; they didn't even have authorization to be there. They ended up organizing this event, and this fatality happened today, in my perception, due to a failure to verify and supervise the placement of the rope on the victim's jump."
However, the company defended itself and stated that they are experienced, and it had happened for the first time in years. It is worth adding that after the incident, the event company deleted all their social media handles, fearing backlash. But people are still in dismay at the lack of safety measures while conducting such a risky adventure sport. People who sign up for these adventure sports know for a fact that their lives are in safe hands. A mishap during the process is understandable, like a natural calamity, but a human mistake, like not attaching the rope, is unacceptable, as it brutally ends a life.
