Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleThe internet is already left horrified by the shocking passing of Brittany Clark, a 31-year-old hiker, who was killed by an alligator while she was swimming. Now, a young boy lost his hand after an alligator attacked him while he was fishing. His father quickly came to his rescue, and while he was able to rescue him in time, the child lost his arm.
There is nothing scarier than an alligator attacking you out of the blue. While people have not yet gotten over Brittany Clark's story and how she was just swimming in the waters of Florida, another young child faced an alligator. Brodie Terry, an 11-year-old boy who is a baseball fan and a Pennsylvania resident, lost his hand in a horrifying alligator attack.
He was on a fishing vacation at Nelson's Fish Camp, Marion County, Florida, on June 27, 2026, with his family when an alligator attacked him. He was all set to release a fish back into the water when an alligator measuring eight feet to seven inches clamped its teeth into Brodie's hand.
However, Brodie's father quickly jumped into the water on top of it and tried to open the alligator's mouth with his bare hand, as per a relative who witnessed the scary moment. It is worth mentioning that alligators perform a manoeuvre in which they roll to drown and tear apart their prey, and that's what resulted in Brodie losing his hand.
Doctors desperately tried to save Brodie's hand, and he underwent many emergency surgeries to save his limb. But unfortunately, doctors were left with the only decision to amputate his hand at the wrist. He was discharged from the hospital and has returned to his home in Pennsylvania.
He has been recovering from the horrors of the alligator attack and suffering the ordeal, during which he will also begin the process of a lengthy rehabilitation before receiving a prosthesis. As per the family, Brodie loved playing baseball and fishing. In fact, Brodie's coach also travelled to Florida to give him courage during the hospitalisation.
People have raised thousands of dollars to help cover Brodie's medical expenses and his future treatment. They even launched the Brodie Strong Campaign to invite the community to wear his favourite colour blue as a sign of support. The family wants to see their son smile again, the way he used to, as he gets accustomed to the new normal. The family said:
"This tragic accident has not only changed Brodie’s life but has also placed a tremendous burden on his family as they navigate the aftermath. Brodie’s passion for fishing, baseball and football has always brought him joy, and now he faces the challenge of adapting to his new circumstances while holding onto the things he loves."
For the unversed, Florida is home to around 1.3 million alligators, and there have been more than 450 alligator attacks since 1948. Recently, a 31-year-old, Brittany Clark, was swimming with her friend and boyfriend in the Econlockhatchee River when she was attacked by a 13-foot alligator, which chopped off one of her arms and left the other barely hanging. Brittany died due to the excessive blood loss. Talking about the gators, the report claims that the reptile was euthanised.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission revealed that multiple agencies and a contracted nuisance alligator trapper responded to the scene. They found the 13-foot alligator at the location, and a 12.5-foot alligator half a mile away and they captured and killed them. They kept the head of it as samples and evidence.
