Biswajeet Chatterjee's daughter, Pallavi, revealed that Rekha's age had made the kissing experience more traumatic for her.
Actress, Pallavi Chatterjee, who is the daughter of veteran actor, Biswajeet has opened up about the controversial kissing scene of her father with Rekha. The incident traces back to when Rekha was reportedly 15 years old and she was kissed forcibly by Biswajeet. She reportedly was all distressed as did not have any idea related to the same.
Biswajeet's daughter, Pallavi Chatterjee, in a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, revealed that the forcibly kissing incident would have been traumatic for any young girl. She revealed that her dad should have said no to perform the scene or at least should have taken consent from Rekha. She also revealed that directors back in that era used to withhold information from stars to capture their live and spontaneous reaction on the camera. Pallavi shared:
"My father should have obtained Rekha’s consent. There were directors who would tell one actor about a scene but would not fully inform the other person because they wanted a particular reaction on camera. I feel that if an incident like this happened, where someone was kissing another person for several minutes in front of the entire unit, it could not have happened without the director’s approval."
Pallavi Chatterjee then revealed that the age of Rekha would have made the full experience more traumatic. Sympathising with the actress, Pallavi noted that Rekha was very young then. If something like that happened to anyone without warning, then what would one do? In her words:
"When you are young and something inappropriate is happening, you often feel awkward even about speaking up. Those times were very different. If a much bigger star was doing something like that, what could you really do?”
Biswajeet's daughter, Pallavi Chatterjee, further revealed that Rekha used to come to her home, and as kids, they used to play together. Their families were very close to one another, and there was a kind of connection. Pallavi, while defending her dad's behaviour overall with women, maintained that he alone was not responsible for what took place. In her words:
"You think of someone as part of your extended family and then something like this happens. My father worked with many women throughout his career and nothing like this was ever reported. He always had great respect for women. If a woman entered a room, he would stand up to greet her. I don’t think it was just my father involved in what happened. It was definitely wrong. It was not right, whether it was done by my father or by anyone else. He should have either refused to do it or obtained Rekha’s consent first. She was not prepared for it, and obviously it would have been shocking for a 15- or 16-year-old girl."
Pallavi further added that someone may have told her father to do the same, as that kissing clip was required. She revealed that, otherwise, there have been so many successful films in which nothing of this sort ever happened. Pallavi, putting her voice ahead, shared that what her dad did was wrong. She said that it was not right, whether it was done by her dad or by anyone else. He should have either refused to do it or obtained Rekha’s consent first. Pallavi revealed that Rekha worked later with her dad.
