Apoorva entered the show as an informer and sorted out her differences with Sufi Motiwala, one of the Lock Upp contestants. For those who don't know, Sufi and Apoorva became friends during the show, The Traitors, and following this, they had a public fallout.
However, while being on Lock Upp 2, Apoorva revealed that she missed Sufi, and she also shared that every time someone questioned her friendship with him, she stuck to being grateful. Apoorva shared that she would have killed herself after the India's Got Latent controversy if Sufi had not been by her side. The controversy, which came out in February 2025, turned out to be a massive one. Apoorva made some comments on female body parts to roast a male contestant who roasted her first, and it didn't go down well with others, leading to several FIRs being lodged against her.
Not only her, but Ranveer Allahbadia also faced the wrath for his comments on parents' intimacy. The phase was tough for all of them, including Samay Raina, Ranveer and Apoorva. While people might think that they bagged a hefty sum of money for their appearance in India's Got Latent, it's exactly the opposite. None of the guests was paid in thousands, lakhs or crores; rather, they earned zero for their appearance on Samay Raina's show.
According to a report by Free Press Journal, after the guests of the show, Ashish Chanchlani and Aproova, were summoned by the police of Khar following the FIRs, they, in their statement, said that they were asked to talk openly. Aproova also revealed that they were not paid any amount of money for their stint as judges on the show, while they were allowed to share the content on social media.
Apoorva Mukhija took a break from social media following the controversy that erupted. And after a few weeks, she made a comeback and revealed how she was receiving death, acid attack and rape threats throughout. In a YouTube video, she extensively talked about her experience and shared that everything around her started scaring her to the core, and she experienced sleep paralysis. Apoorva admitted to dealing with suicidal thoughts during that time, while her family members and friends stood by her side and gave her hope.
In the latest episode on Lock Upp, Apoorva said that during that time, she was not dating anybody, and it was Sufi who stood by her side and continued to help pull her out of the dark phase. It was anticipated that Sufi and Apoorva would have a massive blow-up as they would face each other in Lock Upp; however, the exact opposite thing happened, and they sorted out their differences. Extending her gratitude to Sufi, Apoorva said:
"I wouldn’t have been able to get through that. You were the only person with me. I wasn’t dating anyone. Personally, in my life, as a friend, I have always given you credit. You saved my life; I genuinely wouldn't have been able to survive Latent if it wasn't for you."
