Both Hannah Harper and Jordan McCullough gave their best in their final performance; however, one of them slightly edged the other.
American Idol is a long-running reality singing competition that aims to find the country's next music superstar from unsigned talent. Spanning 24 seasons, the show has established itself as one of the most prestigious music reality programmes worldwide. On the night of May 11, 2026 (ET), the much-awaited grand finale of the music show took place, and a fan favourite emerged victorious. The top 3 contestants, Hannah Harper, Jordan McCullough and Keyla Richardson, impressed the judges and the audience with their mesmerising vocals, and the latter two advanced to the final stage of the show.
Both Hannah and Jordan were exceptional, but the former defeated the latter and earned the title. Regarding the high-octane finale, it featured guest mentor, Alicia Keys and performances from a lineup of music stars, including Nelly, Brad Paisley, En Vogue, Tori Kelly, and Jason Mraz. Judges, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, were joined by former American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, who also took the stage to perform Stuck on You. Now coming to the most anticipated part, i.e., the ultimate champion of American Idol Season 24.
The strong, independent woman, Hannah Harper is the winner of American Idol Season 24. The gorgeous lady has defeated all her competitors and taken home the prestigious title. Notably, she was the frontrunner from the beginning of the final episode, as poll results showed she received the most thumbs-up from the audience. Hannah showcased one of her best forms in the three-hour grand finale and was rightfully crowned the winner. Although the other top 2 contestant, Jordan McCullough also impressed with his act, Hannah's vocals seemed unmatched to the voters and judges.
As the winner of American Idol Season 24, Hannah Harper received a package valued at USD 250,000. However, American Idol Season 16 winner, Maddie Poppe, told Business Insider, "You do get USD 250,000, but not really because of taxes." Besides the prize money, a record deal, the chance to release a debut album, and recognition as a budding singer are other perks the title holder enjoys. Alongwith these, the materialistic reward that the winner receives is a brand new car. As per American Songwriter, ex-champions, Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood, and Clay Aiken received cars, however, the Season 1 winner, Kelly Clarkson, insisted that she walked away with just USD 1 million and no car. Regarding how much prize money the winner is actually left with, Maddie revealed:
"You get half of it [the prize money] before you complete your record, and then the second half you get after you complete the record. So it's just like an advance from the record deal, but I'm pretty sure I have to recoup it."
Hannah Harper started strong right from the first round of the finale. For the first round, she performed a remix of No One by guest mentor, Alicia Keys, which she dedicated to her husband, Devon Mendenhall. She performed a tearful encore of At the Cross (Love Ran Red) by Chris Tomlin as her coronation song. She also performed two of her original tracks, String Cheese (which she also sang at her audition) and Married Into This Town, the latter of which moved Alicia to tears. Hannah also had a special performance, which was a duet with country music legend, Lee Ann Womack.
Hannah is a stellar singer and performer, as she has proved with her American Idol Season 24 venture. However, beyond the country and bluegrass singer we see on screen, is a caring daughter, a loving wife and a doting mother from Missouri. She is a 26-year-old stay-at-home mother. Notably, Hannah's initial popularity as a singer is also connected to her kids. She first gained national attention during her viral audition with the original song, String Cheese, which she wrote while battling postpartum depression.
Hannah's passion for music developed through gospel singing. Growing up in Southeast Missouri, she performed in her family's bluegrass gospel band, The Harper Family (later known as The Harper Collective). The band performed while travelling in a tour bus, and little Hannah joined in from the age of nine and continued until she was 16. According to TV Insider, Hannah was raised in a "super conservative" family and didn't have much access to mainstream music, which led her to country music, a genre she pursued. Cut to 2026, she is now happily married to Devon Mendenhall, and they are parents to three children.
