According to reports, the United States Representative has called it quits with her longtime fiancé, Riley Roberts. And apparently it's not recent.
The buzz around Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's relationship started making headlines after the United States Representative shared that she is freezing her eggs. For the unversed, it wasn't long ago when Ocasio-Cortez had taken to her social media account and shared that she is beginning the process to freeze her eggs. However, what caught everyone's attention was the fact that she hadn't mentioned her fiancé in the post.
Now the alleged reason behind her decision has come to light. According to TMZ, the reason why Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has not mentioned her fiancé in the post was that they have broken up. Reports suggest that the couple had parted ways long before Ocasio-Cortez made the decision to freeze her eggs.
According to Puck's Chief Washington Correspondent Leigh Ann Caldwell, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Riley Roberts have been broken up for almost two years and had been separated for longer. Many sources on Capitol Hill told the news outlet that it had been ages since the pair was seen together in public, noting that their last public photograph was from 2021's Met Gala.
However, it was a year later, in May 2022, that the United States Representative confirmed she and Riley Roberts were engaged. According to Leigh Ann Caldwell, the chief Washington correspondent for Puck News, a reputable Democratic source has confirmed to her that the couple parted ways 19 months ago. She further revealed that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stopped wearing her engagement ring months before that. She stated:
"I was told by a reputable Democratic source about 18 months ago that her engagement was called off. AOC stopped wearing her engagement ring several months before that.
There have been no public photos of her and Riley together in recent history.
That ethics report that people point to from 2025 is referencing a 2021 event, when they were together."
Leigh Ann Caldwell further shared that she has no idea if the couple has gotten back together given the recent "egg freezing" update. However, neither Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez nor Riley Roberts or her office has confirmed or denied her relationship status at the moment. She further pointed out that while the news of her breakup is gaining attention now, she had known about it since 2025. She was quoted as saying:
"Maybe they have gotten back together? I have no idea. Her office has not confirmed nor denied the status of her relationship. Honestly, I thought that her calling off the engagement was much more widely known when I posted my original tweet. I never wrote about her relationship status but learned it when I wrote this story in January of 2025."
As many know, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is freezing her eggs and documenting her journey, which she described as "very daunting". She made zero mention of Riley during her first video about the process, which led to the buzz and the eventual revelation about their split.
