Imtiaz Ali's film, Amar Singh Chamkila will be released on April 12, 2024, and cinema lovers cannot wait for the same. For the unversed, Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles in the biography of the famous Punjabi singer, Amar Singh Chamkila. Recently, we stumbled upon an anecdote about the late Punjabi singer, who was offered to do a film by the late actress, Sridevi, but he refused the same.
As per a report by India Today, Amar Singh Chamkila's popularity and charisma were so great that even the legendary actress, Sridevi wanted to work with him. As per an old friend of the actor, Sawarn Siviam, Sridevi was a great fan of Amar Singh Chamkila, and she wanted him to be a hero in her film.

However, Chamkila refused the same and told the late actress that he had no grasp of the Hindi language. To this, the actress asked the singer to take training, but he again refused and stated that he would be losing Rs. 10 lakh if he would take the language training. Later, Sridevi also wanted to make a Punjabi film with Chamkila, but it couldn't happen either. Chamkila's friend could be quoted as saying:
"Sridevi was a fan of Amar Singh Chamkila. She asked him to be her hero in a film. But he told her, ‘I can’t speak Hindi’. She offered to get him training in the language within a month, but he refused, saying, ‘I will lose Rs 10 lakh in that one month’. Sridevi agreed to do a Punjabi film with him, but it couldn’t happen."
In the same interview, Amar Singh Chamkila's friend stated that the singer was a 'gem of a person'. The friend also shared that in 1986, the singer had gone to his home to pay a visit to his sick mom and gave them Rs. 10,000, which was a huge amount at that time. He had said:
"Amar Singh Chamkila was loved immensely by people in Punjab. People only know Amar Singh Chamkila as a singer. Only a few know that he was a gem of a person. When he once came home in 1986, he saw my mother was sick. He gave me Rs 10,000, and it was a huge amount then."
Diljit Dosanjh, Imtiaz Ali, and Parineeti Chopra will be seen in the next episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show. However, in a promo of the episode, Imtiaz stated that Shah Rukh once praised Diljit and mentioned that the latter is the best actor in the country. The director also added that if Diljit Dosanjh had refused to do the film, then it could never happen. He also praised Parineeti Chopra and stated that she was ready to put on 15kilo to match the requirements of the movie.

For the unversed, the much-loved folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife, Amarjot, were brutally assassinated back in March 1988 when they arrived to deliver a performance in Mehsampur, Punjab. The couple was shot on the place by a gang of unidentified motorcyclists. While some believe that the assassination was done by Sikh militants, the case still remains unsolved.
