The billionaire founder of Zoho Corporation is one of the most successful tech entrepreneurs. Their marriage, which lasted for three decades, ended in the most-discussed divorce lawsuit filed in California.
Sridhar Vembu has been dealing with a bitter divorce battle with his US-based wife. The two were together for 29 years until one day Sridhar expressed his wish of parting ways from his wife, while he was in India setting up Zoho. Now, if reports are to be believed, a US court has directed Sridhar to post a USD 1.7 billion bond, which is approximately Rs. 15,278 crore, in the ongoing divorce case. It has made many wonder about the high-stakes divorce battle between Sridhar and his estranged wife, Pramila Srinivasan. The divorce suit also includes a battle over child custody and Zoho's ownership stakes. They are also fighting over the division of marital assets acquired by the couple during their marriage while they were living in California. Under California law, property acquired during a marriage is treated as jointly owned, regardless of where the assets are located.
For those who don't know, Sridhar Vembu was in the US in 1989, where he was pursuing his PhD in electrical engineering from Princeton. He met Pramila during the course of his studies, and four years later, he married Pramila Srinivasan, who was an entrepreneur in 1993. The two lived in California during the course of their marriage for nearly three decades. The two are also blessed with a 26-year-old son. As per reports, he has been diagnosed with autism. It was in 2019 when Sridhar decided to come back to India and began Zoho from his ancestral village in Tamil Nadu. However, in 2021, his marriage fell apart, and divorce proceedings were initiated.
In the court records, Sridhar's wife allegedly claimed that Sridhar 'abandoned' her and their son, who was diagnosed with special needs. She stated that he moved back to India. As per a source close to Pramila Srinivasan, it was revealed that her estranged husband, Sridhar, told her that he wanted a divorce via WhatsApp text in November 2020, and it was in August 2021 that the divorce papers were filed.
Not much is known about Pramila Srinivasan. However, as per online records, she is an entrepreneur and healthcare technology leader based in the US. She has completed a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering and has spent a lot of time in health and advocacy, particularly around electronic health records and specialised care systems. It is reported that she takes care of her son, and in 2019, she started a non-profit organisation, The Brain Foundation, to support research and treatment for those diagnosed with autism, a cause extremely close to her heart.
