While there is an abundance of shows inspired by the fictional detective, originally the brainchild of author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, an all-new version of 'Sherlock Holmes' is slated to arrive soon on OTT. What sets it apart from its contemporaries is that this time, the focus will be on 'Holmes's' teenage years. If you haven't guessed which series we are talking about yet, it is none other than the most anticipated series, Young Sherlock. For those unaware, Young Sherlock is slated to premiere exclusively on the OTT giant, Amazon Prime Video. Those looking forward to watching the show can stream the full season, reportedly containing 8 episodes, at once on March 4, 2026. It is worth mentioning that OTTplay Premium subscribers will have the option to watch Young Sherlock with a top-up. Furthermore, apart from India, Young Sherlock will be available for streaming across 240 countries and territories.
According to reports, the series is said to be based on author, Andrew Lane's novel, Young Sherlock Holmes, which originally came out more than a decade ago, in 2010. Well, the series will be set in the 1870s and will follow a ‘Sherlock Holmes’ during his time at Oxford University. Unlike in the classic stories, here, ‘Sherlock’ will be seen in his teens, long before he became a well-known detective.
Some people might find his portrayal impulsive and unpolished. Despite this, one thing we can say for sure is that viewers will constantly find themselves at the edge of their seats as ‘Sherlock Holmes’ gets entangled in a mu*der case. As he begins investigating to clear his name, it will become his first major mystery.
As the plot progresses and the case unfolds, viewers will soon discover that a larger conspiracy is at play. To mention, this will also have a significant impact on ‘Sherlock Holmes’ future. Coming to the show's anti-hero, as fans of the legendary fictional detective might already have guessed, it is none other than ‘James Moriarty’, with whom he has his first encounter while trying to solve the set case.
The story is set to delve quite a lot into how ‘Sherlock’ developed his skills in his early days, be it his martial arts training and violin practice, or even how his first meeting with John Watson happened, which laid the groundwork for their legendary partnership. Other notable characters in ‘Young Sherlock’ include the influential ‘Sir ‘Bucephalus Hodge ’, ‘Sherlock's’ older brother, ‘Mycroft' and the powerful ‘Princess Gulun Shou'an'.
In the upcoming series, the young ‘Sherlock Holmes' is played by actor, Hero Fiennes Tiffin. On the other hand, his nemesis, ‘James Moriarty', is portrayed by Dónal Finn. Coming to the supporting cast, Colin Firth will be seen in the role of ‘Sir Bucephalus Hodge.’ Joseph Fiennes and Natascha McElhone are set to appear as ‘Sherlock’s’ parents. 'Sherlock's' older brother, ‘Mycroft’s’ character will be portrayed by Max Irons and finally, Zine Tseng will play ‘Princess Gulun Shou'an'.
According to reports, Young Sherlock is the creation of Matthew Parkhill. He has reportedly also worked as the showrunner and executive producer. Produced by Motive Pictures, Young Sherlock is directed by Guy Ritchie. For those unaware, he is no stranger to ‘Holmes’ adaptations, having previously helmed Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), both of which are unrelated to the present series.
