As Yami Gautam garners applause for her stellar performance in 'Haq', her old interview about being 'unwelcomed' in Bollywood resurfaces.
Yami Gautam is a name that hardly needs any introduction. Daughter of director, Mukesh Gautam, Yami made her acting debut in films with Vicky Donor in 2012. She was then seen in films like Badlapur, Kaabil, Uri: The Surgical Strike, Bhoot Police, A Thursday, Dasvi, Article 370 and many more. Her recent performance in Emraan Hashmi's starrer Haq brought her great reviews.
Ever since the release of Haq, Yami has been garnering a lot of limelight for brilliantly portraying the real-life story of Shah Bano in Haq. The way she has portrayed grace, emotional depth and strength of ‘Shah Bano’ is beyond amazing. Every dialogue of Yami was praiseworthy, as she brought her character to life. She has been applauded by many Bollywood celebs for her performance. However, there was a time when Yami spoke about being ‘unwelcomed’ in the industry.
Amid Haq's success, a throwback interview with Bharadwaj Rangan has resurfaced, in which Yami Gautam spoke about being ‘unwelcomed’ in the industry. Speaking about the same, she revealed that nobody tells you directly, but one look is enough to make you realise that you were not accepted. Holding back her tears, she said:
“There have been times when you felt unwelcomed, when you felt you are not a part of this. And no one has to tell you this, that one look is enough, you can read it that you know you are not there yet, but then I think my family… It’s a very emotional thing for me, not because of the journey, but because I feel very blessed to have the family that I have."
In the same conversation, Yami revealed that only her family believed in her and stood by her during tough times. The actress revealed that her husband, Aditya Dhar, never stopped believing in her potential. In her words:
“I think if they were not there, then it would have been difficult. One phone call to my mom, sister, or Aditya… and we both share the same value system. If I am not social, he’s not social on another level. They say what you are seeking out there and you get it, and for me, that is Aditya.”
After the OTT release of Haq, many celebs took to social media to heap praise on Yami Gautam for her tremendous work. And one of them was filmmaker, Karan Johar. He heaped praise not just on the storyline but also made sure to pen his thoughts on Yami and how she moved him. Calling her brilliant, Karan wrote:
“I don’t think I have been this moved by a performance in many many years… to say that @yamigautam is Brilliant, outstanding, Pathbreaking is still not saying enough…. Her silences, her stares, her last monologue and her stance throughout the film is a master class of craft and conviction …. Salute and Salaam to her!”
